I’m a woman in my 50s (5’7″). From 18 to 40, I exercised in a gym 3-5 times/week every single week including the due date of both of my babies. Not obsessively … just lifestyle. At 36, I got my personal trainer certification & started training others as a side gig. Then my mom developed Alzheimer’s & I became house-bound right along with her.In the early years, I belonged to 2 gyms … one in my city & one in hers 200 miles away. You never know what life will bring you & if you’d bet me one thing I would never give up, it would be going to the gym. It was just part of my lifestyle. I liked the results I got. The hit of chemicals I experienced reinforced the habit. So to lose the only part of my life that had always run smoothly was a big hit.Now as I’m rebuilding my life, I do plan to go back to the gym. But I have a lot of catching up to do in various areas of my life after 8 years of extreme caregiving, so I can’t really afford the time it would take right now. So this set of ankle resistance bands are going to be my “fit it in between everything else” activity.I tried them out & found even the 10 lb. resistance to be enough resistance for some exercises. At this point, my fitness is probably equivalent to someone who has never exercised regularly. So if the 10 lb. is enough for some exercises then you have room to move to the 20 lb. & 30 lb. bands as you become stronger. Also having the variety of bands allows you to choose different ones for different exercises to fit the strength of different muscle groups from the beginning. For example, your quadriceps (front thigh) are going to be stronger than your hamstrings (back of thigh), so you might need different resistance from the very beginning. Or your quads may strengthen faster than your hamstrings, so having the variety of resistance will be necessary. There are other bands available that offer higher resistance levels. If you are a person who doesn’t exercise regularly already, I’d recommend starting with a 10/20/30 lb. resistance band set like this one.In this set, the ankle bands are easy to put on & comfortable. Everything fits in the bag that comes with it which is nice for storage between uses. The exercise card that comes with it is useless. Just go online & search for exercise videos for resistance bands and the part of your body you want to work. You’ll be overwhelmed with the number of results. Find someone you like & just do some of their videos to just have somewhere to begin. At some point, when you have more time, you’ll be able to find someone who has an entire lower body workout using only resistance bands like these. It’s absolutely possible to do your entire lower body with just this set.Just begin!
