It works, no smell, best litter pail
This is the best litter or diaper pail I have tried. Smell does not escape it, not even when you open the lid. The design is superior, from the large capacity and small footprint to the unique easy to use lids and scoop and the layered liner bags. The smell is contained. I definitely recommend this.

A truly awful design
It’s a basic trash can, but worse in every possible way.The rubber flaps are too stiff to let litter fall in, so you have to force them open either with the scoop or your hand. They don’t actually fully seal, nor is there a gasket around the lid, which means they don’t do a particularly good job at odor control.The included scoop is tiny, which means if you want to scoop even a medium-sized cat’s box, be ready to spend 5 minutes digging to get it all. And if you want to use a different, larger scoop, well it won’t fit into the rubber gasket to push it open, so you’ll be stuck doing that with you hand, getting it covered in dirty litter.There is absolutely nothing at all good about this design. Don’t waste your money on it. Either get a regular trash can for $10 or spend the extra money on a better designed litter pail.

Great product. Has worked for us for ~6 mos and does a good job trapping odors. But the scooper is not standard size and itâs very hard to replace! The scoop broke and I wish I could buy it again.

Do the people who designed this even have cats?
I am a longtime user of Litter Genie, which has been a godsend since I have four cats and five litter boxes. Lately, though, I’ve been smelling litter box stench emanating from them, probably because I’ve been using aftermarket refills, which aren’t securing the smell very well. (The OEM refills are good but expensive, and the most recent ones I bought, for my jumbo sized pail, won’t seat in it anymore–they’re too high, and I can’t get the lid back on.)I had hoped this system might be a viable alternative, but it is unfortunately not very well thought out and IMO not ready for prime time. It’s definitely not going to work for me, with my four cats and their various issues. The plan seems to be for you to use the included small, narrow scoop to scoop the litter box detritus–poop and pee clumps–and force it between the flaps in the top of the pail, just under the lid, where it will be deposited into the bag. I used it to scoop just a small amount from one litter box, and already there was damp, used litter caught in the top of the bag (YUCK). And it’s abundantly clear that there’s no way this will work for my one cat who has kidney disease, as she pees massive amounts, and there’s no way the clumps will fit in the scoop, let alone through the poorly designed opening.I have to believe that whoever designed this pail has little or no experience with indoor cats. It might work for kittens, but heaven help anyone who tries to use it for a cat like mine with kidney disease or a cat with diarrhea.Oh–and the hook for hanging the scoop on the pail came off before I’d even used it. The double-stick foam apparently isn’t strong enough to secure it well.Back to Litter Genie. .

Didn’t work for me
Item came packaged well. Includes a scoop, extra bags, charcoal filter, instructions. Product is very well made. Made of good quality plastic. The center of this bin is a rubber-flapped door. This is where the litter goes through. The flap closes after you push the scoop through the flaps to deposit the litter. Then there is the outer lid which closes down on the bin and seals out almost all odors. Hook on side to hang scoop.Likes:To some extent it does trap odor. Also comes with the charcoal filter to absorb odor but not sure where you can find refills.Simple yet sophisticated. We all know the chore – scoop the litter, throw it in a trash bin. Simple chore but this product makes it more novel. Scoop, insert, dump, sealed, shut. No odors.Also has catches to hold the edges of plastic bag in place.Dislikes:The rubber flaps. They are too stiff. It doesn’t help that although it’s purpose is to seal the litter under it and keep out odor, it has to be made stiff/strong to provide a seal. But it hinders the user when trying to deposit litter into the bag. You have to push pretty hard to open a gap in the flaps in order for the clump to go through. And in doing so you would have scattered some litter all over the top of the bin.Scoop is small. It was made to fit the flaps, so that you can use it to push a hole to dump the litter. Any other scoops won’t do.Disgusting stuff gets left behind on the flaps. Over time litter dust, pieces of cat poop and what nots are left on the flaps. Needs to be cleaned often.Bin is too big. I do not keep my litter for many days. The longer you store waste the more unhealthy your environment becomes, regardless of whether you have this product or anything else. You need to get rid of your waste everyday. Do not store overnight.They have a good idea. But I see some improvements that can make this bin a 5 star product. Most importantly, make the rubber flaps more flexible. Secondly, reduce the size of the bin. I do like this product but the stiffness of the flaps make it a pain to use.
