Customers say

Customers find the fish treats healthy for their pets’ coat and appreciate their nutritional value, with one noting they provide both protein and fiber. However, the treats receive mixed feedback about their size, with some finding them big enough while others say they’re smaller than expected. Moreover, customers disagree on the value for money, with some considering them good quality while others find them not worth the price. Additionally, the smell and texture are problematic, with customers reporting a horrible smell and finding them too hard to chew, particularly for Sphynx cats. The freeze-dried nature of the treats is also debated, with several customers noting they’re not freeze-dried at all.

    He’s a fan!
Contrary to a lot of reviews, these are a good treat for the right cat. They do smell like dried fish. If you can’t abide the smell of dried fish, probably skip. But really it’s not the awful stench people are saying. They definitely are large, and hard. I wouldn’t feed these unsupervised or whole to cat, but treat time is supposed to be about bonding and reward anyway. My cat and I figured the best way to enjoy the big fishes is if I hold the fish and he crunches away with his back teeth. He thinks this is fun and I think about the plaque being removed by his crunchy fishy toothbrush. He also likes them broken into about four pieces as regular little treats.I’m not sure I understand the complaints about them being too hard to break or cut. I also cannot break or cut his kibble pieces or other hard treats. His big ol knife teeth do that part when he crunches them. Cats will swallow food whole sometimes too, without crunching, which is why you shouldn’t give them lion sized kibble or entire herring whole. Fairly basic.I am going to try soaking them. He’s a big fan of freeze dried minnow tea, so I assume he’ll like herring tea as well. They have a stronger smell, so he may be even more excited.I think they’ll also be wonderful ground up as a food topper if he’s ever feeling picky about food.So tldr: fishy fish, make big fish small for catcat using human breaky hands

NOT for cats!!! too hard to eat
I got this for my kitty who loves fish. But, I think this is NOT for cats because it’s too hard to eat. I love that it is one ingredient and you can actually see that it is ONLY dried herring. But, it is extremely hard. My cat could not bite into it. I was nervous as he tried and started choking. (He’s OK now) I tried soaking a couple in water to soften them up. It didn’t work and he still couldn’t chew them at all. I also tried cutting them into smaller pieces with my kitchen shears and the fish were too hard even for the newly-sharpened scissors. I think the animal needs a bigger mouth to get the fish crunched and chewed up so they can be safely swallowed. I did give my kitty the water I used when I tried to soften the fish by soaking them– he really liked that! He tried really hard to eat the herring, but was not able to eat even one small piece. I was able to get a refund after 3 attempts online. I’ll be giving these to someone with a big dog who likes fish. I don’t think they are safe for cats or that any cat could eat them. Nice idea, but I’m going back to minnows for my kitty.

    It’s fish
Bought this package for our cat’s birthday, they are very smelly, but it’s fish…so. Our cat didn’t eat them, she played with them and the odor is very potent that we ended up throwing them. Still giving it five stars because it was exactly as advertised, our cat just didn’t like them

    A little fishy but good
Took a minute for my cat to fall in love with these. They have a weird fat like substance in them and smell very fishy. I had to tear them into three pieces and give her the fish as a topper on her food.

Bought these for our cats, hard for them to chew, hard to cut with kitchen shears…suggestion below
I was excited to try these with our cats. I’ve been giving them other brands of freeze dried minnows trying to find a good one but I wasn’t too happy where the minnows are sourced from: Asia and a polluted US lake? When I saw these Herring from Iceland I was thrilled! When the bag arrived I was a bit underwhelmed because it was a small bag, I was expecting a larger sized bag as in the photo but not to worry because the fish are sized pretty large and the size of each fish was bigger than a minnow so I was excited for our cats to try them. Smell was as you would expect it, fishy, but in a good way. When I gave them to my eager cats they sniffed it, picked it up in their mouth, tried to bite/chew but were unsuccessful because they were too tough for them to bite into. They just left their fish in the bowl and walked away. One cat came back to have another go but I could tell it was too hard so he just left it again. Ain’t no way they were going to waste these fish as they’re not your typical cheap treat, so I took each fish to cut them in tiny pieces with heavy duty kitchen shears but I was having a difficult time myself. Some parts of the fish I had to reluctantly throw away because I could not cut them up and if I couldn’t cut it up with heavy duty kitchen shears I didn’t want my cats to break their teeth trying. Perhaps I could throw them in a blender to turn them into bacon bit size or shavings??It would be great if these were freeze dried to make it easier to eat for cats and I’m sure small dogs or elderly dogs too. Not freeze dried to dust, but freeze dried enough to retain something to chew (such as freeze dried minnows) and clean the teeth. If so, I’d be a happy repeat customer…I have 8 cats and love to spoil them.

Cats won’t eat them and they really stink!
I could put up with the smell if the cats would eat them, but not one of the three would touch them(two of them LOVE dog food, even kibble, so they’re not picky). The dogs will eat them, but they’ll eat almost anything. The Amzey freeze-dried minnows are much better, they don’t smell and all the animals LOVE them. They’re a much better buy.

    GREAT for hunter cats
We have an indoor/outdoor cat who loved to hunt and lives a very active life. He absolutely LOVES these stinky fish. I’ve read some reviews about them being too hard for the cats to eat, but our boy completely demolishes these fish in mere seconds. They are his favorite treat. Grocery store cat treats couldn’t interest him less. He likes the REAL real. If your cat is a sportsman who likes actual meat – do them a solid and get these!
