Like many other companies, Canon has now also joined the fray of price increases in the United States. The company revealed that it would hike prices of the cameras and lenses due to tariffs, and it now appears that it has finally come into effect. So far, this includes some top-notch full-frame cameras and a few lenses, which have seen a variable degree of increase. While the company had taken a hypothetical 10% increase in its report, that no longer seems to be the case across the board. Here’s a look.
Per Canon Rumors, the biggest hit was taken by R3, which saw the biggest spike in the price increase. Although it is an old camera, it is surprising to see that this one was chosen for the longest leap. Perhaps, to keep the price of the R1 relatively low for new buyers. Here’s the table:
Product | Category | Old Price | New Price | % Increase |
Canon EOS R3 | Camera | $3,999 | $5,399 | 35.0% |
Canon EOS R6 Mark II | Camera | $1,999 | $2,199 | 10.0% |
Canon EOS R5 Mark II | Camera | $4,099 | $4,299 | 4.9% |
Canon EOS R1 | Camera | $6,299 | $6,799 | 7.9% |
Canon R7 | Camera | $1499 | $1599 | 6.6% |
Canon Powershot V1 | Camera | $900 | $979 | 8.7% |
Canon RF 10-20mm f4 L | Lens | $2,299 | $2,499 | 8.6% |
Canon RF 50mm F1.4 L VCM | Lens | $1399 | $1,499 | 7.7% |
Canon RF 135mm f1.8 L | Lens | $2,099 | $2,299 | 9.5% |
RF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM | Lens | $1,299 | $1,399 | 7.7% |
RF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM | Lens | $2,599 | $2,999 | 15.4% |
RF 100-400mm f5.6-8 IS USM | Lens | $649 | $699 | 7.7% |
RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1 L IS USM | Lens | $2,899 | $3,099 | 6.9% |
RF 100-300mm f2.8 L IS USM | Lens | $9,499 | $10,199 | 7.4% |
On top of that, the R3 isn’t really considered to be all that incredible compared to so many other cameras on the market.
This comes following the price hike by Leica, Nikon, Sigma, and Sony have all increased their prices to various degrees, with some showing as much as a 90% difference. With all things said and done, tariffs are a complete swing. However, with there have been reports that the U.S. Court of International Trade, a federal court, has chosen to block President Donald Trump’s tariffs under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). If it happens soon, then we may stand a chance to have breath of relief.
Until then, all camera and lens manufacturing companies are watching the President and his tactics closely. With the US dragging itself between the Israel and Iran war, it remains unclear how and when things will settle. For now, it is safe to say that relying on second-hand cameras would be better. They will, of course, also see a price hike. However, it would not be as bad as the others.
