Canon RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ Review

The Canon RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ is an affordable ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for Canon EOS R APS-C cropped sensor mirrorless cameras.

This new lens allows you to effortlessly create high-quality videos. Its video-first features include an internal power zoom for smooth focal length transitions, Optical Image Stabilisation for shake-free handheld footage and a 14mm ultra-wide angle for easy solo shooting.

With two-step variable speeds and 15 adjustable levels, the power zoom delivers precise, polished transitions for high-quality footage.

The RF-S 14-30MM F4-6.3 IS STM PZ is lightweight and compact, weighing in at just 181g with a non-extending design for consistent balance on tripods and gimbals.

This is the fifth RF-S lens in the range. Optically it features 10 elements in 9 groups including two PMo aspherical elements and one UD element to help control chromatic aberrations and distortion and offers an effective focsal range of 22.4-48mm in 35mm full-frame terms.

It has a Super Spectra Coating to reduce flare and ghosting and a 7 blade diaphragm which creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.

The Canon 14-30mm is equipped with an optical Image Stabilizer that offers up to 5-stops of built-in stabilisation.

It offers an impressive 0.38x magnification at the 30mm focal length and a 15cm minimum focus distance, whilst using cost effective 58mm filters.

There’s a configurable combined focus/control ring on the lens barrel which allows you to either manually focus or quickly change the exposure compensation, shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings.

The Canon RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens is priced at £379.99 / €439.99 in the UK and Europe, respectively. It is made in Taiwan.
