What we like about the Ryzen 5 9600X
This processor is a fairly new release, coming out only in 2024. We actually reviewed this CPU and gave it 4.5 stars, noting that from a performance to price perspective it offers a lot for the money. It’s great for gaming in particular, edging out the Ryzen 5 7600X and making for a good alternative for most people.
Coming in at around $150 – $200 less than a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, this CPU is a wallet-friendly way of kicking off a new AM5 build when paired with a compatible motherboard.
- Core CPU specs: 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 5.4 Ghz boost clock, 32MB L3 cache and a low 65W TDP.
- Great for gaming: This configuration is excellent for single-core performance and gaming, plus it’s surprisingly efficient thanks to its much lower than average TDP.
- Easy to upgrade: Since this on the AM5 socket, you don’t need to swap out your motherboard if you fancy upgrading CPUs. That’s a big win when it comes to saving cash.
- Next-gen tech: Again, since this is AM5, you can build a PC that can utilize PCIe 5.0 connectivity, plus the latest and fastest DDR5 RAM.
Who’s this deal for and is it the best time to buy?
This is a great CPU for more budget to mid-range gaming PC builds, but also for those who plan on sticking with AM5 for a while and upgrading over time.
As you can see from the graph above, it is at one of its lowest prices of the year, but has dropped lower back in early May as part of a huge wave of CPU deals that came flooding in on Amazon. I’d say that now is still a great time to buy this processor.
