First announced in January 2024, the Nexus G1 Cinema Camera is now available for preorder, and the company has just unveiled a range of new features and updates. The camera will feature a custom operating system called NexusOS, and a removable Nexus Grip has also been announced. The camera is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2025. So, let’s take a closer look at it!
The Nexus G1 Cinema camera is a box-style cinema camera that is based on the Blackmagic Design Pocket 6K cinema camera. Indeed, even though it has added features and doesn’t resemble the original Pocket 6K cinema camera, it still features the same image sensor, image processor, recording formats, resolutions, and frame rates, as well as the Canon EF lens mount and more. The company has just released the 9th update of what started as a dream and 3D images, and we are now closer than ever to a finished product, with preorders open.
Nexus G1 Cinema Camera – NexusOS
In the Nexus G1 Cinema Camera update 9, the company shared its progress and latest improvements. The first and most significant point is NexusOS, a fully custom and highly responsive operating system that provides control over all camera settings, allows hybrid touch and physical control, is built for future expansion, and feels incredible to use.
In the video above, you get to see the Nexus G1 powered up and running NexusOS on the 4″ control panel screen for the first time. NexusOS is developed from the ground up with purpose-built libraries, backend systems, and a lightweight rendering engine, giving you complete control over performance, interface behavior, and hardware integration.

The company claims that NexusOS goes far beyond camera control, being the first camera operating system ever to integrate control of fully manual cinema lenses natively. The Nexus G1 powers and controls Focus, Iris, and Zoom motors directly, with each parameter treated as a core setting inside NexusOS. No external focus kits or third-party controllers are required; paired with the Nexus Grip, this enables fast, precise, and effortless single-operator focus and lens control.
Lastly, the company mentions that this deep hardware-software integration also lays the foundation for future long-range wireless control, not just of lens FIZ, but of every camera setting, fully synchronized and remotely accessible, via the integrated ZigBee transceiver module.

Nexus Grip
The promo video also features the Nexus Grip, which was initially introduced as a concept earlier this year. Nexus Cinema has been able to design that grip for manufacturability and has prototyped it. According to the company, this is the first time they’ve had everything together in one unit: the hardware, software, and final mechanical design. Recording functionality is not yet active and will be introduced in the next update.

Nexus G1 Cinema Camera – other updates
Last but not least, Nexus Cinema announced other updates, including:
- Tech specs: the full specifications of the Nexus G1, including detailed information on imaging, recording formats, lens compatibility, I/O ports, power options, body construction, and more, are now available on their website.
- Assembled in Australia: all Nexus G1 cameras will be built in Australia.
- Tariffs: Since the cameras will be built in Australia, U.S. customs will apply a 10% baseline tariff. However, the retail price remains unchanged because these tariffs may be lifted soon. If they are lifted before the camera ships, there will be no 10% tariff fee. This does not affect pricing in any region outside the USA.

Price and availability
The Nexus G1 Cinema Camera release date has been pushed to Q3 2025. The Nexus G1 Cinema Camera standard retail price is $3,300. However, it is now finally available to preorder for $2,980 ($320 off), and you’ll have to drop a 10% deposit. All preorders will receive the exclusive Nexus G1 Founders Edition, which includes custom markings and the Lightning Strike carbon fiber side panels.
