The latest sales data from Famitsu (covering June 2-8, 2025) reveals a massive debut for the Nintendo Switch 2, and the games launched alongside it. In just four days, Nintendo’s next-gen system has already broken records, moving 947,931 units in Japan alone. This sets a new record in Japan, surpassing the first week of sales for the original PS2. Globally, Switch 2 has cleared 3.5 million units, setting a new record for the highest launch-week hardware sales in Nintendo history.
As expected, that momentum carried over to software. Five of the top ten best-selling games this week are Switch 2 titles, and leading the charge is Mario Kart World, which debuted at No. 1 with an impressive 782,566 copies sold in Japan, including bundles.
