nVidia has very recently launched 2 new cards, the RTX 5070 ($550) and the RTX 5070 Ti ($750). This is a standard nVidia launch, so if you want the tl;dr: Good cards, overpriced.
For more details (and how we’ll be changing our chart), read on…
The Good
-
- Both the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti have excellent performance, easily destroying every game in 1440p, and most games in 4K. You will only need to turn down the settings slightly in the most demanding games in 4K to hit 60 FPS.
- Both cards are energy-efficient, and have good thermals. The 5070 (non-TI) is noticeably cool, particularly for a high-end card.
- Good energy efficiency means quieter cards.
The Bad
-
- The RTX 5070 is being marketed for $550. That is high.
- The RTX 5070 Ti is being marketed for $750. That is too high!
The Ugly
But wait, there is more bad, and yes, it is still the price! As soon as these new cards launched, they went out-of-stock, without any consideration for price.
The 5070 Ti is $750? No, it is out-of-stock, even when being sold for USD$1100! The $550 5070 went up to $740 and still sold out!
The MSRP is a joke, the availability is subzero, and I am very, very sad.
Going Forward
nVidia and AMD have both launched two cards each. All four are great, all four are better than all prior alternatives in that price range, and so we are adding all four to our main build chart. As for availability and MSRP… well it is a disaster, but time heals all wounds.
The AMD options (the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT) will get a dedicated post later this week. But for now I can already tell you:
-
- The RTX 4070 will be removed from the Outstanding and Excellent tiers.
- The RTX 4070 Super will be removed from the Exceptional tier.
- The RX 7800 XT will be removed from the Outstanding tier.
- The RX 7900 XT will be removed from the Enthusiast tier.
- The RX 7900 XTX will be removed from the Extremist tier.
- The RTX 5070 and RX 9070 will be added to the Outstanding tier.
- The RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT will be added to the Exceptional and Enthusiast tiers.
Let us hope that these cards will be in stock for MSRP soon. We have suffered enough! And yes, this part of the post is intentionally duplicated from the article discussing the launch of two new cards from the competition.
