Peak Design introduces the Pro Tripod, a sturdier, taller, and more video-capable follow-up to its award-winning Travel Tripod – now available via Kickstarter with early discounts.
Peak Design has officially unveiled its new flagship tripod system: the Pro Tripod. Designed from the ground up for hybrid shooters and professionals alike, this updated model builds on the success of the original Travel Tripod by offering significantly increased stability, extended height, and refined usability—while still maintaining a compact, travel-friendly form factor.
Upgraded design in three sizes
The Pro Tripod comes in three variants – Pro Lite, Pro, and Pro Tall – to suit different shooting needs and portability preferences. All models feature an upgraded CNC-machined hub, flanged center column, and thicker leg tubes. These enhancements bring the load capacity up to 40 lbs (18.1 kg), double that of the original model, and increase the maximum deployment height up to 197.4 cm (Pro Tall), depending on the version.
Despite these pro-grade specs, the Pro Tripod line remains compact and lightweight. The Pro Lite version offers the slimmest and lightest package, while the Pro and Pro Tall provide greater height and stability with only modest increases in packed size and weight.
A redesigned Pro Ball Head with fluid features
A major refinement in this release is the new Pro Ball Head, now featuring integrated fluid panning and 15 degrees of tilt, even when the center column is fully stowed. A redesigned ARCA-compatible quick-lock system allows for faster and more secure camera mounting, while a new optional Tilt Mod accessory can convert the head into a true pan-and-tilt system—ideal for video shooters on the go.
Additional thoughtful improvements include smoother, faster leg cams, a stowable hex tool and mobile mount inside the center column, and ergonomic, CNC-machined leg angle adjusters. A weatherproof padded carry sleeve with adjustable strap rounds out the package.
Built together with filmmaker Jimmy Chin
While the Pro Tripod is a natural evolution of Peak Design’s tripod design ethos, it also reflects real-world feedback from working professionals. As part of the development process, Peak Design partnered with adventure photographer and filmmaker Jimmy Chin to field test prototypes in extreme environments. Chin’s input helped guide durability and usability enhancements, particularly in high-demand scenarios.
