Enjoyable read
I love natural remedies, so I was interested to see what this book had to offer.I appreciated how the author put emphasis on respecting her Native American background, while still sharing these recipes with the world. The pages in the book are pretty, I love the plant descriptions, and the information about tools and gathering plants. I also liked how each recipe provides insight into their benefits/cures, and the recipes are not hard to follow along. Some recipes also include alternative ingredients, especially if a particular ingredient is over-harvested or particularly hard to come by.

Very appreciated introduction
The book is in three parts. Parts 1 and 2 are very informative and very interesting to read and I appreciate the guidance that the author is providing.Part 1: Introduction to Native American Herbal MedicinePart 2: Essential Herbs to KnowPart 3: Native American Remedies for Health and WellnessThe Resources section at the end includes 6 suggested books and 6 suggested websites.Part 3 has 75 remedies listed that cover many health issues that include acute and more chronic issues. Many of the recipes are for teas but the recipes also include skin and hair health. For me, I have yet to find something that helps with my migraines so I’m looking forward to making the headache and migraine tincture. As stated by the author, “to my knowledge, each plant can be wildcrafted if you have the capability, and most can be easily purchased in dried form online or in retail establishments.” So I’d love to be able to get the herbs myself but considering I’m disabled and don’t drive, it will be unlikely that I can do so. But as the author said, I can find the herbs online.

Easy to read
Recently it feels like alternative medicine is everywhere so I thought it might be a good idea to get some background on some of these practices and this book seemed like a good start. The book starts by giving you some definitions on certain topics that you’re going to need to know it is clear and easy to understand providing enough information to satisfy you while not being to overbearing. Most of the book follows the same format introducing a specific plant showing you what it looks like as well as a brief historical context as to how it was used by native Americans and what you can hope to gain by using it also provides info on where you can source it while also providing warnings if there are similar plants that look similar but can harm you. I appreciated that the tone of this book is more informative than trying to get you to only try alternative medicine. Overall it’s a great addition for anyone in our current world where alternative treatments are becoming more mainstream and showing up everywhere.

Quite informative for beginners
I’ve always had an interest in natural remedies from the past. There were no pharmaceuticals or money hungry drug companies back then; people just figured out what they could reap from nature’s bounty to cure what ailed them. And, I would like to learn more about it. So when I saw this book come available, I didn’t have to think twice about grabbing it to read.Wow, what a vast amount of info and recipes! I can’t wait to try some of them. Finding some of the plants and herbs may be a challenge, but with some hunting around I think we can find some. And if I learn of a certain recipe that really works well for us, I am thinking I can find seeds or plants online or locally to buy and grow ourselves. I’m excited to give it a try!
