Easy setup. Works with my Alexa. Data looks good. What more need I say?
I have had a weather station (Davis Vantage Pro) for years which is an awesome weather station but is a bit dated (it also recently stopped transmitting). So in need of a new weather station I purchased the WS-2902 after looking at reviews and prices.Hardware setup is easy as it can mount to any pole between 1-2 inches in diameter. The installation is just two u-bolts and took me about 5 minutes. Plugging in the base station it instantly connected and started to read data from the weather station. It really could not have been easier.Software setup had two problems but neither of them were directly the fault of the base station. First, the setup of the base station requires a WIFI network with AP isolation turned OFF. AP isolation just means that no device/computer using wifi on the network can see any other device/computer on the network. So AP isolation turned on will not allow your cell phone to see or talk to your base station once it is connected. My router from Xfinity is terrible and for some reason doesn’t allow you to turn AP Isolation off. Luckily… I have an extender upstairs I connect to that does… problem solved.Next software problem was uploading data. It is supposed to upload to 3 different websites (Ambient Weather, WeatherCloud, and Weather Underground). I set them all up (easy) but the data going to Weather Underground was a mess. Even worse… the data would not upload to Ambient Weather or WeatherCloud for about 20 minutes. This left huge gaps in the data charts. The problem was Weather Underground. It seems that according to the Ambient Weather FB group, Weather Underground has had huge technical problems for the past week. People can’t connect and problems of bad data persist. I went back to the phone app and removed the Weather Underground from the list of sites to upload to.Suddenly… everything worked PERFECTLY. The data going up to Ambient Weather updated every minute. The data going to WeatherCloud updated at the right intervals (I think it is every 10 minutes) and the charts looked great. So if you purchase this weather station I suggest setting it up so that the data uploads just to Ambient Weather’s website first and hold off setting up the other two for a day or so. This way you have some level of confidence that the whole system is working properly. When WU gets itself back up and running right I will probably reconnect and upload to it.So far the data has been very accurate. I’ve compared it with the local airport and surrounding stations and it appears there are little changes in calibration needed.Oh… and I can also query my Alexa about the outside/inside conditions. It works very well also.My only complaint is that it appears the Ambient Weather website doesn’t allow you to share your weather information. You need to log in to see it as there is no way to make it public. WeatherCloud, however, is open and doesn’t have that restriction but Ambient Weather ‘looks’ much nicer. Oh well, it still gets 5 stars.

Easy to Setup and Built Tough
I purchased this unit in 2023 to monitor weather at our vacation home. Itâs worked flawlessly ever since. The setup was easy and integration with Weather Underground was seamless. I also setup the unit on the Ambient Weather Network without any problems. I like the fact that you can set alerts for things like wind gusts and temperature ranges. I have shared our weather stations remote viewing capabilities with friends and neighbors and they all said how helpful it is to be able to monitor conditions. I donât think there is. Better mid-range weather station available. The display panel is bright and is capable of being powered by the supplied ac/dc converter cable. It also has battery backup. Very happy with this purchase.

Phenomenal weather station and customer service
This weather station is fantastic. Easy setup, indoor and outdoor temp, humidity, outdoor wind speed, wind direction, and rain rate/accumulation. Works great and super useful. Had an issue with console communication with weather sensor and contacted ambient weather customer service. They were super responsive, gave troubleshooting info, then sent me a replacement sensor when we were unable to resolve. Excellent service and great responsiveness.Indoor unit is perfect size to sit on counter, easy to read with bright color display and easily connected to WiFi.When you set this up, you use their app and can see your system readings from the app wherever you are. We added sensors and put in our fridge and freezer and around our house.I canât recommend strongly enough.

Great little unit, except the console is hard to read and I’m having lots of connection issues
Updated: See below.I had a relatively inexpensive Logia 5 in 1 weather station that died after a bit over two years. I was looking for a higher quality replacement and this AmbientWeather WS-2902 had good reviews from a few different websites, so I made the purchase.Set-up was easy, the sensors connected to the console when next to each other, the sensor mounted easily to the pole I had set up for the Logia and the console was hung up in the same spot that the Logia console used to reside. That’s where the good news story ends… The AmbientWeather console is hard to read at any angle other than straight on. It isn’t very bright and is a disappointment from this viewpoint. It also doesn’t display some data that I had grown used to with the Logia, specifically it will not simultaneously display rain total and rain rate and some others. The real kicker is that the device will only intermittently connect with the console. Sometimes it’ll connect, but other times it refuses. The sensor is on a pole over a fence just 30′ away from the console. When I had the console hanging on the wall, there was absolutely no connection. When moved to a table, there is a connection, but it goes in and out. Very frustrating that the old $80 cheaper Logia unit outperforms the AmbientWeather unit in several different ways. It’s raining outside, so right now I’m not going to climb a ladder to bring down the sensor to troubleshoot. I did look at WeatherUnderground and there are a few other WS-2902 units near my house, so they may be interfering with my unit. From reading another review, all WS-2902 units transmit on the same frequency without any radio packet identifiers, almost guaranteeing interference.Update & Edit: I reset the console per the troubleshooting information in the manual and this did the trick. I now have great reception and the console is hanging on the wall where the old one used to hang. I’ve added back a star, but still am taking one off due to the poor console screen. In a dark room you still have to be in-line and rather close to read it. The old one had a better screen that I could read from across the room. I would recommend this weather station to anyone with the caveat that the console screen is poor and you’ll get the most useful information online from AmbientWeather.com or Weather Underground.

UPDATE MAY 2023Returned!Note that this is the 1550 and not the 1551.The 1550 is old and only sold in Canada. The 1551 is the new one (with Observer IP 2.0j and only sold in the USA. Go figure. The listing says this supports soil monitors and a bunch of other sensors and it DOES NOT. Only the 1551 supports all the additional sensors. What a bait and switch, dump em on the dumb Canucks scam. I asked Ambient about this and they blamed Amazon for getting rid of old stock. Huh?Anyway get the Ecowitt 3500 for the same price. It is like the 1551 and supports all the additional sensors AND it includes a serviceable little console and uses wifi so does not need a cat6 cable plugged in to your router. Welcome to the 90s. The 3500 also takes a micro SD card so if you ever need the historic data for anything you have it without troubling yourself with a bunch of download steps that may or may not be there in the future.Note also that the 7 in1 sensor array is IDENTICAL in both offerings. Sure they look different but they are identical. In fact I plugged my Ecowitt console in before I powered down the Ambient array and the console picked it up right away!On account of the high price and old stock I down graded my review to 1 star.ORIGINAL REVIEWGot the 1550 (Canada). Installed it.Did not realize the “hub” had to be hard wired. It must be getting hard to find CAT6 cables. How old is this?I have not hard wired anything into my router for 10 years. The sensor array of course is identical to the Ecowitt which I uninstalled. Their hub is at least wireless. This could be an issue for me because the sensor array is 20′ up a pole in the back yard while the router and now hardwired hub is in the front of the house. There are a lot of walls to go through. So far it is working but we will see. The point of wireless is to remove this limitation. There is confusion around “wireless”. Is it a wireless station or a wireless hub or both? I re read the box and it did not jump out at me that this was a hard wired hub. Probably not a real selling point…And lastly my landed cost for the Ecowitt was $139 and the Ambient was $225.They do exactly the same thing EXCEPT Ambient reportedly lets me download historic data with 1 minute resolution on a monthly or weekly basis. Ecowitt summarizes (averages) everything older than 24 hrs and that decision alone cost them this sale.

I purchased this device few months before for my farm in remote location. Initially i faced problem in consoleâs connectivity with WIFI, faulty console was replaced by the company. Really i appreciate them for sending this part from USA. Now it is working well, only issue is if WIFI is not available data is not buffered even one day and that dayâs data lost. Other than that not faced any problem. Since their customer care is not available in India if we mail to them, they respond mostly same day.
