Within the last decade, smartphones have gone from something only technically savvy people enjoyed to a daily device that can be used by anyone from children to grandparents. These days you are in the minority if you don’t have a smartphone and are missing out on all the wonderful things you can do with them. As these smartphones keep getting more advanced, some people may find it hard to keep up with everything they can do and how to do even the simplest of tasks. Not everyone is a tech genius and since our smartphones generally don’t come with instruction guides we are left to figure it out on our own.
The goal of this book is to get you up and running on your smartphone without confusing you in the process or making you feel like a dummy. Whether you are just getting started using a smartphone or have had one for some time and would like to become more proficient in its operation this book will help you do so. Its written so people with no experience can easily grasp the concepts and people with experience can gain some new skills and sharpen the ones they already have. Most importantly its filled with pictures to help explain these concepts so you aren’t left guessing how the words you are reading actually relate to using your phone.
The chapters in the book cover the following topics:
Chapter 1 – What is a Smartphone
Chapter 2 – Setting Up Your New Phone
Chapter 3 – The Home Screen
Chapter 4 – Notifications
Chapter 5 – Installing Apps
Chapter 6 – Setting Up Email

Robert Sadler –
Very informative
Great book, full of tips and instructions.
Richard A. Neider –
Gives good information on Android phones.
Only problem I found was finding info on the TracFone androids. Some terminology problems. Hard to write one book on all android phones, specially when manufactures/resellers can take liberties and use different terms or delete some features.

Guide for a Beginner
Very detailed. Maybe a little difficult for a complete beginner without any knowledge of a smartphone. Pretty well covers everything.
T. Rose –
Very helpful.
I found this resource to be well written and easy to understand. I like the illustrations, too. I am slow to the smartphone party, so, I needed all the information provided.I will probably return to this book in the future for refreshers.

Book title is accurate. It is aimed at first time Android smart phone user.
Because I have had my smartphone for awhile, this was almost too simplistic for me. But I started with this because I felt that a “Smartphone for Dummies” would be too sophisticated for me and my very basic smartphone. When I upgrade to newer phone, I will be ready for a “Dummies” book.

Makes Android Smartphones easy to operate.
Grama, grampa, if you own an android smartphone, you have finally found a great book for us seniors. I was a cellphone dummy. Struggled with my android smartphone for over a year, but couldn’t figure out how to operate it. Bought another cellphone book but that didn’t help. Thank your lucky stars for this author.

Solid introduction
This is so much easier to use than the instruction manual. If you are putting off getting a smartphone because you think they are difficult to learn and use, then you need to read this book.
Gilde –
Better examples of features needed.
There were few visual examples of how to do things.

First of all, the physical book is too big. The font is big and the photos are gigantic. And there’s not much in there. Take the chapter on security, for example (likely the most important chapter in any book on cell phones). There’s only 62 SENTENCES in the entire chapter. I have books on my shelves that have 62 PAGES in a chapter. And zero mention of VPN…zero. I was also hoping for something on the folder system within my phone, which I find confusing. But there’s nothing.

This book has excellent basic information for those who, like myself, are new to smartphones. There’s a lot to learn on these little dingos, and if you don’t want to be last in the sheepdip, then you need something to get you shorn and pointed in the right direction. Talking to myself here: the basic Android stuff is roughly the same for all Android models; as a rule, it’s only in the more advanced details that you’ll find variation.
Andrew John Albrighton –
Covers the basic of setting up your smart phone and some of the more common features and functions of most phones . If you want to know more about your particular phone I would either suggest doing some in depth online research or finding a book about your phone.
Benjamin English –
I bought this for a pensioner who’d never owned a smartphone before. I had a quick look through the pages before I handed the book over and it didn’t seem to be basic enough.Although the book was classed as second hand it was in ‘as new’ condition. I was very impressed by this.
Christine Cain –
I have had a smartphone for years but I did not know how to work it. This book is easy to read and full of useful tips.
