This expanded and revised U.S. Navy training course text provides thorough coverage of the basic theory of electricity and its applications. It is unquestionably the best book of its kind for either broad or more limited studies of electrical fundamentals.
It is divided into 21 chapters and an extensive section of appendixes. Chapters cover safety, fundamental concepts of electricity, batteries, series direct-current circuits, network analysis of direct-current circuits, electrical conductors and wiring techniques, electromagnetism and magnetic circuits, introduction to alternating-current electricity, inductance, capacitance, inductive and capacitive reactance, fundamental alternating-current circuit theory, direct-current generators, direct current motor magnetic amplifiers, and synchros and servomechanisms. Appendixes acquaint lay readers with common terms, abbreviations, component color-code, full load currents of motors, and cable types; they also supply trig functions, square and square roots, basic formulas, and laws of exponents.
Thus the reader is supplied with a complete basic coverage of all important aspects of electricity. And, drawing on its ample funds, the Navy was able to fill this text with dozens of illustrations so that the book becomes almost a multimedia teaching process.
This is an excellent text for classroom use or for home study. Students will also find it a valuable supplement to courses in which theory is emphasized while little attention is paid to application; it will also supplement a course in which this situation is reversed. In addition, Basic Electricity serves the lay reader who simply wants a knowledge of fundamental concepts of electricity or wishes to study more advanced concepts and applications. 1969 edition.

Bestselling Introductory Mathematics Books
Introduction To Graph Theory (0486678709)
A stimulating excursion into pure mathematics aimed at “the mathematically traumatized,” but great fun for mathematical hobbyists and serious mathematicians as well. Requiring only high school algebra as mathematical background, the book leads the reader from simple graphs through planar graphs, Euler’s formula, Platonic graphs, coloring, the genus of a graph, Euler walks, Hamilton walks, and a discussion of The Seven Bridges of Konigsberg. Exercises are included at the end of each chapter.
An Introduction To Information Theory (0486240614)
Behind the familiar surfaces of the telephone, radio, and television lies a sophisticated and intriguing body of knowledge known as information theory. This is the theory that has permitted the rapid development of all sorts of communication, from color television to the clear transmission of photographs from the vicinity of Jupiter.
Covers encoding and binary digits, entropy, language and meaning, efficient encoding and the noisy channel, and explores ways in which information theory relates to physics, cybernetics, psychology, and art.
Introduction To Topology (0486663523)
Ideal introduction to the fundamentals of topology. Originally conceived as a text for a one-semester course, it is directed to undergraduate students whose studies of calculus sequence have included definitions and proofs of theorems. The book’s principal aim is to provide a simple, thorough survey of elementary topics in the study of collections of objects, or sets, that possess a mathematical structure.

“better than Ever”
I am a 76 year-old man who tries to maintain brain function by studying schollarly topics. DC electricity is the present obsession,so the knowledge can be applied to an entheusiasm for solar panels.I bought several texts to be able to benefit from different author’s versions of how to solve the variety of math problems. I was never satisfied with any of them, so kept looking. On Amazon Books was listed an old US Navy Textbook, used by the entire Seventh Fleet, which included my ship, during the Korean war.Feeling good about the idea, I purchased it.The other texts, all partly read, now sit on a shelf. The Navy book, talks to your thinking like one man speaking to another, covers EVERY topic in such a thorough manner that I never have used any of the other resource books . . . which were all originally bought, one at a time to be the only text. The book speaks logic and reason to this old mind, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be as good as the military Men and Woman who run our present day technology in the war zones.

Wish I could use this instead of an expensive textbook… Awesome text!!!
Easily one of the absolute BEST informative books I’ve ever read…and it’s so cheap!! I wish I could buy books like this for school instead of textbooks easily costing $100-$200 each – and they’re much less clear than this book. This is an awesome resource for anyone interested in electricity, or someone who just needs a nice reminder. It covers plenty of the “electricity” field, and gets into some stuff that’s not so “basic” for sure. Within two weeks, I bought 4 more books by Dover Books because they’re so well written and laid out; some smart authors! I would recommend this to anyone with any remote interest in electricity. Don’t waste your time and money with other books!

Excellent Resource
I haven’t been able to find my father’s original book that he received from the Navy in the ’70s but this book is very similar and is a great resource. The book is laid out in a way that someone could teach themselves electronics but for many it would be helpful to have a “lab” in order to really understand some of the theory. There is some math in this book as well but like I said, if you have a test lab that you can use while working through some of the theories you will be fine.

Interesting and Well Written
Tl;dr: In many ways this is just an aging, well written book on electronics. In some ways it’s much more than that. I deducted a star due to the printing, which can make it a bit frustrating to read at times. Overall I found it to be prerty comprehensive, very to the point, and effective in it’s delivery. What keeps this book relevant are two things. First, not THAT much has changed. Yes there are some materials that are different. Yes I did do a nasally laugh when the manual warned not to wear hobnail boots around live electrical. And yes, the chapter on batteries could be called dated. But, like most other engineering fields… what was true 50 years ago is still true now. Second is that so much of what we work on today was built at the time of this book’s writing. So you will gain knowledge from it’s perspective and it may enable you to reach that sweet sweet understanding of what the person that built what you’re looking at was thinking about at the time. What makes it interesting is the historical value of it. You tend to step out of the present while reading it. For those of us who have older relatives that served in the armed forces, you can kind of feel a connection to them at certain points. Which is pretty awesome. My only real complaint is the borders. The print is way too close to the binding. It’s a pain because you really need to open the book to not have the end of the lines cut off. Like a quarter of an inch more on the inside border of the left side pages would’ve been great.

Not just a manual, but a teacher
It explains the concepts so well. It is written is precise, yet approachable language. Every sentence has a purpose. There are many very helpful and simple diagrams. Key ideas are reiterated succinctly when referenced again, so they really get hammered in. I enjoy reading it immensely, and it has certainly helped me understand electricity better than any overpriced textbook has.

Detailed
I bougth this book because when I started to study analog & digital electronics I did not know anything about electricity. Just Ohm’s law..Now, after a few weeks that I have it in my technical library, I can say that I know MUCH MORE about that. The contents are very well explained in detail with a lot of pictures as examples, from Resisteances, Parallel & Series Circuits Analisys, Capacitors, Impedance, DC & AC, AC & DC motors etc.I found the book very easy & clear to read. Also, a good thing I immediatamently noticed, the original current flow direction is used in all the book, from – to + , not as many books use the conventional flow direction.Strongly suggested.

Not the same as the original Navy books from the Government Printing Office
I bought it since I lost my original copy procured from the Government Printing Office in Washington DC. It had a lot of great basic but now lost arts such as how to splice wires. This one is dumbed-down.

Lieferung geschah blitzschnell.
