Minimalist protein works perfectly in a fruit smoothie and holds my appetite for hours
So far I’ve tried Bulk Supplements unflavored, unsweetened Casein, Whey Isolate and Egg White. I always use unflavored/unsweetened protein powders in my fruit smoothie recipes because I get plenty of flavor and sweetness from ingredients other than the protein powders, and the minimalist protein powder ingredients allow me to avoid excess sugar. In addition, I love that the Bulk Supplements Casein powder does not add any off flavors. Its milk-like scent is not apparent once blended into a smoothie, and it enhances the richness of the dairy I use (usually plain yogurt or kefir) which makes for a very satisfying smoothie. I use a Vitamix to blend the smoothie, so I have not noticed any chalk or grit mentioned in other reviews. In fact, I can definitely say that I get gritty texture from OTHER proteins I’ve tried (rice or pea protein from a different brand), even when those vegan proteins are blended in the Vitamix. Casein in my smoothie holds my appetite much longer than whey concentrate / isolate or rice protein. It holds me a little bit better than pea protein without the weird taste of pea. I don’t have anything too critical to say since the product is effective, the price is great and the packaging is not fussy. My only hesitation in repurchasing is that I am trying to avoid soy, and many of the Bulk Supplements products include soy lecithin. I would prefer either sunflower lecithin or none. Regardless, this is a super product for those who want control over what goes into a smoothie or other high protein snacks. My ranking of Bulk Supplements protein powders I’ve tried: 1-Casein, 2-Whey Isolate, 3-Egg White.

Best of the caseins
Every casein that I’ve consumed has a chalky consistency to it and this one is no different. The taste is palatable but I would not go so far to call it a “good” taste. Aftertaste is tolerable as well. Tips for mixing (casein is not very water soluble):- If possible, mix up with a blender bottle at least 4 hours in advance to allow clumps to dissolve.- I’ve found that starting with warm tap water and refrigerating produces the best results.- If you cannot mix in advance, a blender works wonders.- If no blender is available, a gentle side to side rocking with a blender bottle has produced the best results for me.- Do not mix ice in until well blended. The casein seems to clump to the cubes and resist dissolving.- Do not poor casein into an empty blender bottle. It won’t mix. Make sure theirs at least an inch or so of water at the bottom prior to pouring.- Put the steel shaker ball into the cup AFTER the casein. It helps keep the casein from floating to the top of the cup as you poor water in.Bulksupplements products are notorious for poor re-zipping on their resealable bags as the protein invades the “zip” and makes it impossible to close. I’ve purchased the 21 cup Rubbermaid containers for both my whey and casein with excellent results (link at the end of this review). I also understand the frustration that this product does not come with a measuring spoon. I utilize a scale and measure to just under 1.1 ounces (30 grams) of both my whey and casein. I’ve yet to find a measure cup combination that consistently measures the 30 gram serving size.A lengthy review, I know. But, it strikes at many of the main complaints that people have about this product. Most of the complaints can be applied to casein protein as a whole rather than this specific product. If you’re researching casein you likely know how you’d want to use it (protein feed while sleeping, typically) so I won’t go there. I’ve tried many, many, many types of casein and this is the cleanest and cheapest that I’ve found. Been using it for 6 months now without issue, other than the mixing problems.Rubbermaid bins: Rubbermaid 21-Cup Dry Food Container

Works better than whey for me.
Whey always gave me gas, or made me hit the bathroom after workouts like I had been drinking gallons of water. Casein digests slowly, so if you don’t need immediate muscle repair and growth from a killer workout, maybe consider trying this. I take it mainly to just get additional protein, and add milk and ice cream.

So far it works for baking; packaging isn’t great
Not sure if I really trust this brand, but so far this protein powder works great for baking in a 50:50 ratio with whey (isolate, concentrate, or blend). It’s unflavored so I don’t have to worry about flavor compatibility. The package zipper wouldn’t stay closed so I had to repackage it. Also didn’t come with a scoop or measuring implement but that’s okay since I usually weigh it out for baking anyway.
