How Did Clear Gear Get Started?

Clear Gear co-founder Steve Tracanna said nothing could have prepared him for the experience he had in November 2011. After a weekend hockey match, he spent days in the hospital with thousands of dollars in hospital bills. Turns out Steve had contracted bacteria from his hockey equipment due to it not being properly disinfected. While lying in his hospital bed and later in the days recovering at home, Steve came up with the idea for a simple solution that would disinfect sports gear and prevent life-threatening infections — it was the birth of Clear Gear Spray.

How Much Clear Gear Do I Need To Use?

Use enough Clear Gear to make sure the surface you are disinfecting is wet on all sides. 1-gallon of Clear Gear covers 3200 sq ft.

How Do I Use Clear Gear Disinfectant Spray?

Clear Gear is easy to use – just spray the surface and let dry. Make sure the surface you are disinfecting is adequately covered. For Clear Gear Disinfectant Spray to be effective against all germs, the surface must remain wet for at least 10 minutes. Some germs are killed on contact and others can take up to 10 minutes.

What Is Clear Gear Effective At Disinfecting?

Clear Gear Disinfectant Spray is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, is virucidal, (including HIV-1, the AIDS Virus and Hepatitis B Virus and Hepatitis C virus), fungicidal, and inhibits the growth of mold and mildew, and their odors. Here is a sample list of germs that Clear Gear kills: Coronavirus-19, SARS Associated Coronavirus, Human Coronavirus, Staph, Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 & Type 2, Flu, Rotavirus, Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Shigella, MRSA, Strep, HBV, HCV, Norovirus, RSV, Pox Virus and other viruses.

Keeps the stank out of my hockey gear
Been using this for years on my sweaty hockey equipment. I got a spray bottle and funnel for quick and easy use. As soon as I get home, I spray this on every piece of gear and my bag and allow it to air dry. Like many other reviews say this stuff works wonderfully. I’ve gotten at least a couple of of comments from teammates mentioning that my gear doesn’t stink. It’s great.
It seems like a high price, but a gallon bottle lasts me nearly a year while playing hockey once or twice a week. That’s a great value. Recommended!

    Get the Funk Out
I use this on all our hockey gear in conjunction with a drying rack. There are other spray options, but we use so much of it that it makes no sense for us to continue to buy hundreds of smaller spray bottles. I needed to find something that worked and was available in a large refill size. This works well. There is no stink and no mold, crust, or other slime on the equipment afterward. I have not seen any damage to any of the material on which we’ve sprayed it – nylon, poly, cotton, plastic, metal, etc. I have used several other sprays in the past, but can’t find them in bulk or refill sizes. The only knock on this is that it is very expensive. If you are on a budget and still want to get rid of stinky gear, check the web for home remedies instead. For us, this is just easier and it works.

Best stuff to spray down your hockey/sports gear!
I have typically only hung up my hockey gear to let dry but since using this stuff for almost a year now, it has been amazing. I usually refill a spray bottle and then spray all my gear down after I hang it up to dry. Since using it, my gear hasn’t stunk. I also use it for my shoes and boots. Definitely recommend it! Wish it was a little bit cheaper.

    Does what it should!
Great cleaner that makes me feel like my workout facility is clean! I bought this cleaner in the spray bottle first and now use this to refill the spray bottle. I also bought a spray mop that I fill with this cleaner rather than spray my mats and scrub them by hand on my knees. Way more efficient and things get cleaned!

Always use this on my hockey gear
After anytime on the ice it is important to do 2 things with your gear:
Hit it with a good clean skin safe disinfectant (Clear Gear).
    Let the gear dry.
I’ve been using these two steps for several years now and my gear is never offensive at all, some gear doesn’t even smell like I’ve used it.
    Highly recommend Clear Gear!

    Not worth the money
I was using a DIY 1:3 white vinegar/water mixture on my hockey gear, along with drying everything after spraying with a rocket dryer. This setup did a great job eliminating/preventing sweat odor but there was always a slight vinegar smell when the gear got sweaty again, and I would have to air out the garage after using the rocket dryer due to the muggy vinegar atmosphere.
Clear Gear is much more expensive than a DIY option, but based on the claim it eliminates “rink stink” I figured it was worth it. Prior to the first use, I ran my gear through the wash to have a “blank slate” to start with. I’ve used it for the last couple of months over approximately 30 ice sessions and I’m honestly not very impressed.
The liquid itself is a fairly neutral scent which would be great if that’s what my gear ended up smelling like, but it doesn’t completely eliminate odor. I’ve tried heavy spray, light spray, hang to dry, and through the rocket dryer but there’s doesn’t seem to be any consistent results – just stale sweat smell. It does seem to keep odor in check to where it’s better than nothing, but at this cost it would be cheaper and not much more time consuming to just run my gear through the wash every week and get it legitimately clean. I’ve started adding tea tree oil to the spray bottle and that’s slightly improved the resulting scent. The gallon jugs don’t last anywhere near as long as other reviewers claim.
I’m going to switch back to my DIY option.
