Dymatize Elite Casein helps keep your muscles supplied with a steady stream of amino acids, the building blocks of muscle. This helps avoid the catabolic state of muscle protein breakdown that begins to happen when your muscles are deprived of the right nutrients. Casein is a unique protein derived from milk that breaks down slowly in your digestive system, keeping you fuller longer and providing a sustained release of muscle-building amino acids. This makes casein the ideal choice anytime your body goes without protein for an extended period, especially just before bedtime. Dymatize Elite Casein delivers 25 grams of sustained-release protein, with over 10 grams of critical branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and glutamine precursors per serving.

    Believe the Hype
UPDATE 9/6/2017: Been using for a few weeks now and I’ve figured out the thickness problem. The ideal shake for me is 10oz water for every scoop of protein. I’ve found 8oz or less results in the shake being too thick and just unpleasant to drink. You can expect most reviews on protein powders rated 4+ stars to rave about the taste, even when you’ve tried it yourself and it tastes like sweet dirt (MusclePharm). So of course when I saw the reviews for this Dymatize Casein I didn’t really bat an eye. I was glad nobody was saying it tasted terrible, but I was mostly concerned with the macros and ingredient list. After deciding on this because of its good price, only a few ingredients, and quality macros, I received it a few days ago. Believe me when I say this is the best tasting protein I’ve had the pleasure of purchasing. Honestly it tastes like a Chick Fil A shake, if Chick Fil A had a cinnamon flavor. And I’ve only been using one scoop per 8oz water, I can only imagine how 1.5 scoops tastes with milk or vanilla almond milk. YES it is very thick compared to Gold Standard or other whey powders, but I think all casein powders are. But that doesn’t make it difficult to mix. My one scoop per 8oz water mixes fully with just a few shakes of the blender bottle. I’d say it mixes even easier than the Gold Standard I have. The first night I drank it I’ll admit I had some trouble downing it because I was already pretty full. But every night since I’ve had no issues. I just enjoy the taste too much, the thick texture doesn’t bother me anymore. I used to wake up with stomach aches because I’d be so hungry, but not since taking this protein. Also I’ve experienced no side effects like gas or bloating. For anyone wondering, I am bulking and do one scoop with my last meal for the day, 1-1.5 hours before bed. I’d recommend having it 1.5-2 hours before bed. Last night I did an hour and had to wake up in the middle of the night to pee. Not ideal.I’ve heard of some people also using casein when cutting. One scoop in the morning to keep you full for several hours until lunch rolls around. I’d recommend it for this purpose too, it keeps me full but not bloated and I bet it’ll taste great in a smoothie with some berries and a banana in the morning.

At this price-point, my favorite casein so far
Casein typically doesn’t taste as smooth as whey—it’s naturally a wee bit gritty—but Dymatize blends and tastes better than most others I’ve tried, other than Optimum Nutrition. I prefer the ON cookies and cream to this one, but just barely, as I think it taste a little better, but it costs more. So, price relative to value, this is my go-to. This is a micellar casein, which is the best and least processed form of casein, which means it costs a little more than others.I take 50gs before bed, since you need more casein to stimulate muscle protein synthesis than with whey, but with casein it delivers over a much longer duration than whey, which is short-acting. I take it at bed after workout nights, but I’ll take just 25 on non-workout nights, if I think I’m out of the muscle-protein-synesthis window. I’ll take it at 50 g during the day if I don’t have time to make a meal and it’ll be a while before I can eat. This brand and flavor tastes good enough (and a lot better than Body Tech’s, and it mixes better, too), and I think it helps me sleep a tad bit better. I usually blend up a banana with it for some added fiber and carbs. The only con I can think of is that the caps on these are peculiarly stubborn to remove upon the initial opening, but just at first.I hope this review is helpful to somebody.

Yeah it has a bit of a texture, but not bad.
The reviews I’ve seen for every brand of casein had me expecting a mouthful of chalky sludge, but nope. Just loaded up a 22oz blender bottle with the stuff, dropped in a couple scoops (yep this is more water than suggested on the directions,) and it went down almost as easily as whey.I did notice a slightly gritty texture, but nothing that’d put me off from drinking whatever I had prepared. Another upside of the extra water is that I could easily add some creatine and/or beta-alanine without worrying about anything falling out of solution.Flavor-wise, it’s one of the better chocolate flavors I’ve encountered. If I had one gripe to give, it’s that the scoop managed to find its way all the way down to the bottom of the container, so I had to reach into a bucket load of fluffy powder. Btw, 10/10 hand-feel. Not really sure if that’d be a reason to prefer a brand either, but there it is.

    Good value, but grainy
Very hard to mix, even with a shaker bottle, so tastes grainy. Started mixing it with hot black coffee and that helped tremendously, plus it tastes amazing. About $10 cheaper than optimum nutritious’ chocolate casein for roughly the same amount of protein, so for now I’ll be sticking with this one.

    Highly Recommended.
Great source of protein, great taste and mixes well. I am able to mix well without using a blender so is great on the go. Overall great price for the quality.

    Fine Product
I find that there is little to no “grit” taste. I add 12 ounces of 2% milk, a couple of chopped frozen bananas, and 2 scoops of this to my Nutribullet and 30 seconds later I am enjoying a delicious banana-flavored protein shake/smoothie. After working out, this is a refreshing smoothie drink that supports my recovery.

    My preferred protein powder
The cookies and cream flavor tastes great. I mix it with egg whites and cold brew coffee every morning for a light and filling breakfast. It keeps me full for hours.

    Good Flavor, Poor Texture
This casein protein power tastes great but when made in a shake with milk or water had a gritty texture to it. It works great for baking high protein muffins but not great in a drink. Dymatize makes great whey protein but may struggle a bit with casein.

The product is absolutely great! It 100% Micellar Casein, feeding muscles while you rest (great intake before bed, or if you do intermittent fasting – it keeps you satiated) which was the exact thing I was looking for; giving 25g per serving! And it’s 0% sugar, getting it’s sweetness from sucralose. The taste of rich chocolate is absolutely delicious and as expected. (A few may have complained of the taste being powdery – it’s cos they are not adding enough milk / water) I make it in 350ml skimmed milk and it’s spot on!It beat others in terms of pricing as well.Being banned substance tested is a great thing as it ensures you’re not taking in something you don’t want to!All in all, really happy with the purchase and I’ll be reordering again

It’s a casein protein: it mixes well even without a blender, it tastes great without being too sweet, and is reasonably priced. It keeps you full and energized between workouts and meals. All that is needed and all I want from it.If you want sweeter, go for the cookies and cream flavour.
