Customers say
Customers report that their cats prefer these freeze-dried chicken treats over chicken hearts and appreciate their uniform cube size. The treats are fresh and stay fresh until the last bite, and customers find them healthy, with one noting they can be used as alternatives to regular treats. While some customers find the quality good, others report low quality, and many consider the price too high for the small bottle size. The smell receives negative feedback, with several customers describing it as rancid.

Great quality and delicious
My cats really love these treats. Unlike some others I have tried they are of good quality and of a good size for them to eat. I have been reordering them for a good while. Both the salmon and tuna are great and make their coats shiny and healthy.

Amazing
I use mainly for high rewarding dog treats in training. Iâve got a 1 yr old german shepard. These work perfectly. My cat also likes these and they are small enough for him to eat. They are also a great texture, not too hard and not too soft. Definitely recommend. They stay fresh with the container they come in, definitely has a salmon smell to it but itâs just a normal mess itâs NOT like a rotten or questionable smell.

Returning the product. Made in China and USA. Had I know before that any thing from China was in it I would not have ordered it.

Apollo Loves Them But They Do Not Hydrate Well
I read reviews that influenced me to buy Chef Kitty’s Freeze-Dried Salmon for Cats because I was led to believe that these cubes hydrate well. They do not. Not in my experience, at least. This salmon did not inflate, or puff up, into tender, juicy chunks of salmon. They were somewhat moist yet still hard and unappealing. The cubes of salmon remained relatively hard even when I soaked them in VERY hot water. I also tried hot, warm, lukewarm, and room temperatures. Perhaps the fat content (which can be hard) contributed to this issue or maybe they were overdried. I learned about “overdrying” from my correspondence with another freeze-dried pet food company when I had to return some freeze-dried that contained black and brown sections in the fish. The Chef Kitty Freeze-Dried Salmon also has some discoloration – mainly black and brown spots on many of the cubes.I have a lot of experience buying freeze-Dried food products from Amazon. One consistent problem is that they are delivered not in a sturdy box with protection inside, but rather in a flimsy envelope. So I often end up with a bag of crushed freeze-dried food. Other customers have complained about this too. However, in this case, the salmon is brought to you in a jar which can prevent the crushing. But I have been also questioning whether or not amazon is storing freestyle food in a cool, dry environment. Some of the freeze-dried products I receive seem old or stale. It seems like a stale condition would not be possible since they are freeze-dried, but believe me, when I buy the same product directly from the manufacturer, the difference in the product’s shipping container and freshness is remarkably BETTER.So, in a nutshell, these seem a little too hard and maybe a little old, but my kitty, Apollo, inhales then with wild abandon when I feed him some dry cubes of this Salmon. He absolutely refuses to eat them, however, when I offer him the salmon after I “try” to hydrate it. I try to hydrate my boy as much as possible to avoid urogenital and kidney problems (i.e., crystals) that cause kitties so much suffering. Males are especially in danger of being “blocked” and not able to urinate because of the way they are designed; this situation is dangerous and can be lethal. So, I am curious what kind of Chef Kitty quality I might receive if I bypass Amazon and purchase directly from the Chef?We will see …

Good small cube size, cats eat it, but smells like dried apples
I really like the small cubes. The brand I usually get comes in large cubes so I always have to cut them into 1/8ths so the cats don’t choke on them, since they don’t always chew them enough and often swallow them whole. So these already being in tiny cubes was a really nice surprise.I tried this brand since my regular wasn’t available right away, and to see about having a backup brand. The cats didn’t go for them right away (even though freeze dried tuna is their favorite treat), because they don’t smell like tuna. They actually smell like dried apples, which is really odd.The pieces are shiny, like they may have a coating on them. I searched the label numerous times, but there isn’t any ingredient list anywhere on the label. So even though it has the advertising “bubbles” that say it’s “just one ingredient”, it doesn’t actually say “Ingredients: Tuna” on the label, and the shiny coating and apple smell makes me wonder if there isn’t something else in them besides just tuna. Plus, they’re an orangey-yellow color, and they’re hard to break or cut. My regular brand is a pale pink color, not shiny, smells like a dried fish, but not stinky fishy, and has a texture that is easy to cut through, from all the moisture being dried out.The cats have gotten used to these new ones, and they eat them, so I’ll finish the container. I just can’t get past the apple smell and shiny coating making me think there’s something other that just tuna in them. However, I will be going back to my regular brand (Whole Life Pet Just One), since there’s no question about the ingredient.

Doggos love it
The dogs go bats every time they see me pick up the little plastic jar. They turn their nose up at a lot things that are supposed to be treats but these they love to distraction.
