Invaluable Herbal Reference
I find myself using this and several other books any time I am working on my herbal studies. I find the A-Z Condition Index and the sections on Plant Constituents, Actions, and Effects to be the most concise and useful when researching and understanding the scientific process of healing using Earth’s most natural medicines. I also like the holistic approach the book offers on whole body systems. To be Honest, the only thing this book doesn’t cover is a formulary of herbal remedies and recipes. It may list excellent sources of herbs to use to treat specific conditions and why, but not combination recipes. Part 4 on Herbal Sources, Dosages, and Safety could be more thorough and specific and include a full spectrum analysis of each herb and plant but it doesn’t and that is the main reason why I refer to the other several books I mentioned because they include a more detailed herbal, especially that of Michael Tierra’s The Way of Herbs. In addition the other two books I use most often for the same purpose and because I mainly specialize in herbal liquid extracts and oils is Ed Smith’s Therapeutic Herb Manual and Richo Cech’s Making Plant Medicine. And for a more in depth overview of Herbal Medicine I would recommend James Green’s Herbal Medicine Makers Hand Book. All in all despite my desire for an all in one book covering all of my scientific and herbal needs, I still rate this book 5 stars because I couldn’t be who I am today without it.

Herbal is better than Phamaceuticals most times
Herbal Remedies alongside Homeopathic Remedies, both compiled by Dr. Asa, are pretty much all one needs to restore your body to optimum health. Diet and exercise help, but if you’re sick, you need to figure out why and these books help. Dr. Asa is by far, the most gifted healer I’ve ever met. I’ve shared his books with many and will continue to do so.

If you are interested in understanding and applying natural healing methods then this book is a good place to start. I have a lot of books on medicinal properties of herbs, but this book is by far the most user friendly. It contains a section with most common ailments and conditions and lists the herbs you can take, accompanied with relevant analysis to help you make correct choices. The lists have asterisks to identify the most effective herbs as a further guide. Comprehensive analysis of ailments in human body systems described using images and useful indexes to help access the information. Also it analyses individual herb origins, properties and dosage separately and recommends further sources of information. I bought this book because I was pregnant, looking for natural ways of dealing with all the aches and pains that come with it and found this book very good. It also has a breastfeeding section.
