    Very useful book
I read this book cover to cover and have at least 1/3 of the pages flagged for use. There are many helpful hint, tricks and ideas in this book for everything from cleaning your fridge to baking cookies. I have already used some of the cooking recipes with great results. The homemade cleaning solutions have been used as well, and they do clean better than many of the chemical ones on the market. The best part is that they don’t cause my hands to break out in a rash or to dry out. This book is well worth the purchase price and would make a great gift for anyone – such as a newly married couple, or someone purchasing their first home, or someone who just wants to “green” up their routine a little. Several guests to my home have picked up this book and become engrossed in it immediately and then gone online to order it before leaving. There is just SO MUCH in this book that I may have to buy another because my copy is already getting dog-eared.

    A must have!!!
Like everyone else, I am trying to reign in my budget & purchased this book in hopes I would learn a few new ways to do just that. I was pleasantly surprized with the multitude of the content. There is everything from cleaning to beauty to recipes for seasonings, baked goods, dinners, etc, to tips & tricks for saving money. This book really covers everything, and I think of myself as pretty well read on money saving matters 🙂 I can’t wait to try the recipe for white cake, looks delicious! And how impressive to tell the girls I made it all from scratch…..for a fraction of the cost at that! We are planning a girls night & I’m whipping up some of the homemade beauty products to try, while a friend has a few of the household cleaners to bring so we can all give them a try on our own. I recommend this book to anyone looking to save a few dollars, go greener, and get back to basics.

    Great back-to-basics book!
Homemade is a really great book if you are looking for basic recipe ideas to make your own foods and household products. It’s really the best way to know what is in the products your family is eating and using. You will find recipes for all kinds of things: fresh pasta, sauces and marinades, ice cream, deli-style foods, some home food preservation (though just a start-up guide for that), fast-food types things (like potato chips-bet you can’t eat just one!, chicken nuggets, etc), jellies, jams, pickles, basic family comfort foods such as lasagna, many breads and rolls, salads, beverages, snacks and desserts. If you want to make your own ANYTHING this book is a really good place to start.Beyond the food items, you will find recipes and instructions for health and beauty items, garden helpers, cleaning products and more. This is truly a great resource book, and would be a terrific gift for a new couple just starting out or a young family trying to make ends meet.

Love this book! Money saver and good ideas on going green!
I got this book because we have found some allergies in my family to GMOs and formaldehyde among other things. We are trying to go green and increase the healthfulness of my family.I really like a lot of the recipes and ideas in this book – the one thing I dislike is that it will give you a recipe that states: for example, 1 cup shampoo – what kind of shampoo, where do I get it and how is making my own shampoo out of other shampoo any cheaper? However, there are many great ideas and a lot of recipes I really appreciate. Since I started reading this book we have switched many of our cleaning products and plan on bottling some ketchup and mayonnaise of our own soon! I am so excited to use this and books similar to make our indoor lives healthier.I highly recommend this book – it has easy to make recipes that are huge money savers.

    Treasure Trove
Hey!This book is a treasure trove of recipes for those of us who are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious. There are recipes for your pets, for your health, for food, for beauty products, almost everything you’ll need. Now, there is one complaint I have, and that’s the frozen foods section. Seriously, they outline how to freeze different foods. In detail. And it takes up several pages. The ingredients lists are hilarious. Water and whatever fruit you are freezing. Seriously. I’m sorry, I think I could have figured out freezing foods on my own. Even if I couldn’t, the internet would probably have more information and wouldn’t cost as much as this book. However, other than that one section, this book has been a great help. I’ve only tried a few of the recipes, but they’ve all turned out great. Right now, my best friend has borrowed the book, and I’m ticked at her for not giving it back, she loves it so much. I guess I’ll have to buy another one just for her.Hope this helps all you potential customers, and happy reading!Luv ya,Tashi 🙂

Could have been so much better.
Over 1/2 of the book are food recipes. Wow, did *you* know you could make *muffins* at **home** and *save money*? Wow. I know *I* sure didn’t. (sarcasm_mode:off)Seriously, this book would have been better (and cheaper), if they focused more on the last parts of the book, making homemade remedies, cleaners, pet food, etc.I agree with the one reviewer who was talking about the beer shampoo. It was, well, kind of lame. Some of the other recipes for cleaners and such are really good ideas. I would have given it a higher rating if they did more homemade remedies/etc.

This has become my home bible, so full of brilliant ideas and lovely recipes. A really useful book for those just starting out too, as it explains things very clearly. I really love it.

Pinterest without internet! I checked this out at the library first and after I had “dog eared” each page, I realized this is one I had to buy. I even thought of ruining my library relationship and never returning the book. Then I thought about going to the librarian and asking how I could buy it. Finally I considered a quick look on Amazon and bought it, saving myself considerable guilt and preserving future library visits. I Know that I have already saved money with the things I am able to substitute store bought with home made. This book is a great jumping off point for beginners and with the basics here, anyone can expand with their own imagination. SO glad I bought this.

But I saw it in store today and browsed through it for a very long while. It has about 400 pages, zero photos or illustrations, BUT has great recipes separated in convenient sections:- Green cleaning products: window cleaner, dish soap, pipe cleaner and lots more;- Home remedies: cramps, indigestion, migraines, cold syrup and more;- Health and beauty: toner, bath salts, lotions, masks and hair products;- Pet food and supplies: pet treats for dogs, cats and birds, flea repellents and more;- Garden solutions: insect/pest/animal repellents, soil and planting mixes, etc.;- Cheaper healthier: this is the food section. Homemade ketchups, salsas, breads and such. The table of contents is somewhat lacking (you’ll have to bookmark each chapter for a complete list of its recipes and even then you’ll have to browse the chapter as the page number isn’t indicated in the chapter contents list) but the book does have an index at the very end.Someone who’s passionate about saving money and/or the environment may get a little overwhelmed at first thinking they should start making all of this themselves immediately, but I’m sure someone who uses this book as a reference for slow and steady improvement will get a lot more enjoyment out of it. While I’ve seen most of the food recipes in many other recipe books (only with lovely photos to boost) and don’t find it out of the ordinary, most of the other sections are somewhat of a home-bible godsend.* For those interested in making beauty products at home, I would also suggest Natural Beauty at Home by Janice Cox — still no photos, but lots of recipes;* For those who would additionally like to re-purpose and give new life to their old clothes, I would suggest the 99 Ways to Cut series, by Faith Blakeney, In Stitches by Amy Butler who has a wonderful website by the way, as well as (I have lots more but this is my personal favorite) Tendance Vintage by Helene Le Berre;* For those interested in homemade decor, I would also suggest (modern/industrial) Hardware Style, by Marthe Le Van.
