I live with severe acid reflux, and was looking for a more natural alternative than otc meds. This has helped, but I am wondering what the 31% ethanol is for.I’m no scientist, but am I defeating the purpose of trying to use this as an alternative.

Garbage Ingredients
I’ve been living with IBS for a very long time. Decided to give Iberogast a try since Nestle seems determined to make IBGard as expensive as possible, and now I’m just going to have to accept that higher price tag. I’ve only tried the liquid version of Iberogast — the capsule version has a warning about wheat ingredients, which just seems like a massively stupid oversight since most people who need a product like this are already sensitive to wheat and/or gluten. I found the taste fine, but the effectiveness was next to nothing. More often than not I found myself feeling much sicker before any sense of relief would come — my best guess there is the alcohol content. If you’re just an average person looking for occasional GI upset relief, Iberogast might be suitable for you. If you have real problems though, avoid this at all costs. It may be cheaper than what we’ve had available until now, but it’s not worth even the ink used to print the labels.

Gave me a headache, itchy tongue
It’s recommended that you can take up to 20 drops. I used 6 drops in my water. Horrible taste, but I drank it anyway. About 15 minutes later, I felt sick – headache, stomach upset, and more alarmingly – an itchy tongue (obvious allergy to the ingredients). I gave it to my acupuncturist who had no reaction to it – so I guess it’s my system that can’t handle the ingredients. Be careful with this – if you have allergies – only use 1-4 drops instead of the recommended dose. Plus the alcohol scent is very strong – beware scent-sensitive people!
