FAQs
Does the Proud Pet Patch bandage work on all dogs?
Yes, though it is not recommended for puppies. The bandage comes in 4 sizes. Refer to the size chart in the online shop. Also, the size of the wound should be taken into consideration. You don’t need a large bandage for a small wound. Choose the bandage according to the size of the wound.
What is the bandage best used for?
For hot spots, lick granulomas, stitches and wounds on both front and hind legs.
What precautions should I take when using the bandage?
-Monitor as you would monitor the cone.
-Do not tie the straps too tight. As with anything tied too tight, this can cut off circulation.
-The velcro used to make the patch extremely uncomfortable to lick, may stick to certain fabrics, especially knits.
-Position the strap to avoid any irritation to joints or toes.
What is a lick granuloma?
Lick granulomas are a chronic skin problem caused by excessive licking and very difficult to cure. They are open sores and if left unresolved, long term repercussions can include scarring, permanent hair loss, OCD, stress & anxiety.
How long does a bandage last?
About a week, it’s really dependent on your pet’s activity. Remember 2 bandages come in every order.
Are the bandages reusable?
Typically not once the inner adhesive is removed. The bandage can be used without removing the adhesive covering and then the Velcro straps become the sole means of holding the bandage in place. This can extend the use of the bandage.
Does the ProudPet Patch completely replace the need for the cone?
For wounds, dermatologic conditions (hot spots, lick granulomas) and post-surgery healing stitches on pet’s front or hind legs, the Proud Pet patch is a great alternative to the dreaded cone.
How do I apply the bandage?
Very easily with no need for gauze or tape. Simply remove the adhesive covering, press down, then apply the Velcro straps. Please view the 1 minute instructional video or package insert for further details.
What is the best way to remove the bandage?
If the bandage doesn’t come off by gently pulling it like a normal bandage, rubbing an alcohol swab or soapy water along the edge of the adhesive will weaken the adhesive.
“My dog ripped the bandage off right away – what should I do?”
As with anything new it’s important to closely monitor your pet until they get comfortable with the Proud Pet Patch. Some dogs adapt quickly and in other cases, a cone may have to be used until the dog gets used to it. The bandage is extremely comfortable for them to wear, and extremely uncomfortable for them to lick.
How many do you recommend buying in an order?
One package containing 2 bandages should last about 2 weeks. This is the typical time for dermatologic wounds and healing stitches. If there is a chronic problem (i.e. lick granulomas or hot spots), you may need more.
How many bandages are in a package?
Every order comes with 2 bandages in a package.

Great for active dog and better than the cone !
Used the patch for an injury our dog had on her front leg. The vet had provided us with an enormous cone which made it difficult for her to walk. We go on daily hikes and recently walked through messy weather and the patch withstood the weather and after a few sniffs/licks she left the patch alone. I like the ease of putting it on her, the availability of air to get to the wound and not needing to take it off to apply the prescribed ointment. I strongly recommend the patch as an alternative to the cone.

Does not work for large long hair breeds
Our large long hair GSD recently developed pressure sores on his elbows after a leg injury with a long recovery time. Elbows in general are a nightmare to pad or bandage and we were so excited to try this product after trying everything else out there. The foam squished down completely flat on a large dog so it didn’t provide any padding, the adhesive was terrible and didn’t stick at all, and yes I removed the backing. Also the velcro straps are tiny and I mean TINY. Not just in width but also length, and they popped right off within 5 minutes of use. Thd entire square pad is covered in serious velcro so the second he brushed against the couch it stuck to the side and ripped right off his arm. The edges of the pads are also extremely sharp plastic and I ended up with 2 sliced fingers just trying to get the straps in place which also made me nervous for our dog to end up with cuts. If you have a large long hair dog breed don’t waste your money.

Finally, something that works!
Iâm so glad I finally found something that works and we donât have to use the cone again. The XS worked great for my maltipoo who is about 7 pounds. She had a hotspot on her back leg and the base of her tail. She was loosing fur around the hot spot area and I couldnât keep medicine on it and the cone she hates and canât eat out of her bowl or drink water well bc she is so small. But I found this Proud Pet Patch and IT A LIFE SAVER! Once I put the Proud Pet Patch on she didnât try licking it once! She sniffed it and then went about her business ðð. Happy to not have to see her struggle with the cone anymore! Thank you for inventing this awesome product!

Not strong enough
Yeah the wound breaths and heals and this is the best thing we found so far besides the cone of shame. The spray is amazing, instant relief, you can see the change in our dog immediately. There are still edges, which means our dog can still get to it and chew it up. We used duct tape over the whole thing to prevent this and it worked great. Until last night when it slipped (i did not tape well) and we are now back to square one.

Great idea if you have a cooperative pet
After trying to use gauze and tape to no avail I was so happy to find these. For the first few hours our dog left it alone and I thought we’d hit the gold mine. However I noticed that he had just pushed it down his leg so I went ahead and let the adhesive do it’s thing. It stayed on overnight but a few hours later doggo had chewed it off his leg with some blue stuff stuck to his fur. It came off after a day or two. It’s a great idea and probably works well for some pets.

Care and comfort for my dog and Easy and convenient for me
My yellow lab licked open a really bad spot on his forearm and had to wear a bandage. This ProudPet Patch was so easy. It covered the spot without rubbing against it and I didnât have to take it off to check the wound, put ointment or give it air through the access holes. All with the bandage still on. No messing with tape, gauze and pulling off the old bandage. Th package of 2 lasted MOre than 2weeks and by then the hot spot was all healed up. Rich H

Sticks to everything
Excellent idea, except the blue for the velcro to stick to also sticks to everything else . Blanket and rugs .so when on the dogs leg they get stuck to the rug ,causing issues .

Works great as long as you work with your pet to get them used to it!
I ordered this bandage after family members told me about it. I have labs which are prone to lick granulomas on their legs. There seems to be no end to the lick chew cycle. My vets only solution was the cone but keeping a cone on my big active dogs for 3 weeks waiting for the sores to heal just wasnât feasible, we were all miserable.Tried the patch and initially it didnât stay in place. I realized I hadnât removed the paper from the adhesive backing. That kept it secure but my guy was insistent on trying to chew it off. Since I already had a cone I decided to try the cone with the bandage as the directions suggested. After a week I took the cone off and no bandage chewing, think he forgot it was there! 10 days in and So far so good. Will update after 3 weeks.
