Each herb is comprehensive; organized well
The book starts with an overview of the revival of natural medicine and a history of natural medicine across cultures. I appreciate the points about how herbs including essential oils such as sage and frankincense help with purification and with the mind, body and spirit connection. The book is organized alphabetically with each herb, starting with anise and arnica. Each herb is explained, and the book details what each herb is used for and how to prepare it. This is very helpful! This is one of the best books I have seen on herbal remedies. I appreciate the tips for creating a wellness sanctuary at the end and the message to connect with nature and its wisdom and the rhythms of the earth through herbs. Very comprehensive, easy to follow, and organized!

    Excellent Excellent Excellent
This book is a must. You can tell from reading the book that a tremendous amount of thought went into this book. It is easy to read, thorough and fascinating. The author does an excellent job of laying the groundwork for the book at the very beginning of the book. He explains precisely what herbal medicine is. The book is organized in a helpful manner. First, the herbs are listed in alphabetical order, and then various ailments are listed along with the herbs that they are designed to address. The preparation and storage of herbs are also addressed. Comprehensive information is given on each herb, including instructions on how to prepare it. You will not go wrong with this book.

    Herbal Wisdom
This book is a comprehensive guide to herbal remedies, offering over 600 solutions inspired by global traditions. It’s well-organized, with detailed explanations of herbs, their uses, and preparation methods, making it easy to follow for both beginners and enthusiasts. While more illustrations and diverse recipes (like poultices or tinctures) would enhance it, the wealth of knowledge and practical tips make it a valuable resource for anyone exploring natural healing and wellness.

I enjoyed learning new information in this “Encyclopedia.” It presented me with some fresh ideas on how to treat certain ailments. Many of these herbs are currently in my cupboard, making this journey applicable and easy. I would have liked some other recipes, however. I appreciate tea and making many of these herbs as tea, but I could have benefited from some recipes like making poultices or tinctures. Nonetheless, there is lots of good educational material in this gem!

Written by a doctor of naturopathy
I love that this author is a Dr. of Naturopathy, so you have an extra layer of knowledge behind these ancient remedies. As always wit herbal remedies, you need to do your own research and be sure you are using herbs safely, but this book is chock-full of knowledge and useful tidbits and recipes to add to your own apothecary. I like the layout of this book, in alphabetical order by main ingredient, with all related ailments under each ingredient…for instance, Valerian, for restless legs syndrome, one which definitely caught my eye for my RLS. You can also use the Table of Contents to look up particular ailments and see if they are under multiple herbs, such as nausea, which is listed under 3 herbs (and there are others for diarrhea, gas, etc.)

    Herbal Remedies for Holistic Wellness
This book serves as a comprehensive introduction to the world of herbal remedies, making it a great companion for both novices and seasoned enthusiasts of natural healing. Its clear structure and informative content provide over 600 practical solutions for common ailments, blending time-tested herbal wisdom with actionable guidance. The emphasis on the gentler, synergistic effects of herbs compared to synthetic pharmaceuticals is particularly noteworthy. For instance, the comparison between turmeric and ibuprofen is well-illustrated, highlighting how natural remedies like curcumin can reduce inflammation without the gastrointestinal side effects of synthetic drugs. Similarly, the exploration of active compounds such as alkaloids and flavonoids offers readers a deeper understanding of how herbs like echinacea and green tea interact with the body to promote wellness. The inclusion of an audiobook edition is a thoughtful addition, catering to those who prefer learning on the go. Practical advice on integrating herbal remedies into daily routines, such as crafting infusions and storing herbs safely, makes the book highly usable. However, the slower action of herbal remedies is honestly discussed, reminding readers to approach them as part of a holistic, long-term wellness strategy rather than immediate solutions for acute conditions. The A-Z section on herbs and ailments is a handy reference, providing clear explanations for the use of plants like chamomile, ginger, and lavender in treating conditions ranging from anxiety to digestive issues. While the book avoids making exaggerated claims, it provides a balanced perspective on how to integrate herbalism with conventional medicine when necessary. This is an interesting resource for anyone keen on exploring natural remedies, offering a blend of education and inspiration for a healthier, more harmonious life.
