The Digest Diet is a 21-day weight-loss plan based on groundbreaking science and newly discovered foods and habits that help your body to release fat. Reader’s Digest sifted through all the weight-loss science to pick the foods, recipes, and habits that truly slim you down quickly and safely. We reviewed cutting-edge nutrition advances and myth-busting articles. We discovered some new reasons fat creeps on—and reliable ways to get it to fade away quickly. The Digest Diet targets surprising fat increasers in three key areas—eating, environment and exercise—and gives you the tools you need to turn the tables and shift your body into fat release mode.
The eating plan is organized in three basic stages: Fast Release, Fade Away, and Finish Strong. Every phase loads you up on fat releasers. But the calorie and macronutrient ratios shift in each so as to maximize fat release—and results!
Fast Release (12-minute exercise routine) is a four-day fat releasing jump start. The Fat-Release Workout combines both strength training and HIIT (high intensity interval training) into a 12-minute workout that’s amazingly effective for fat burn and muscle growth.
Fade Away transitions you into lean proteins and micronutrient-rich greens. For this 10-day stretch, you continue to have a shake a day, but the lean-and-green focus gives your body what it needs to help you release fat and build muscle, while lowering your intake of carbohydrates for faster fat fade.
Finish Strong is the last week of the plan. The meals and recipes show you how to enjoy a balanced, healthy, wholefoods diet rich in fat releasers.
The Digest Diet provides a list of 13 fat releasers, which include Vitamin C, Calcium, Protein and Coconut Oil, as well as an easy cheat sheet of fat releasing foods that can be eaten during the diet, such as broccoli, grapefruit, mozzarella cheese, almonds, fish, beef, red wine, dark chocolate and avocados, to name a few.
Inside the Digest Diet, you will also find a 21 day meal-plan, 50 fat releasing recipes with full color photos, a 12 minute fat release workout, a fat release workout calendar, before and after success stories, “laugh it off” sidebars to help keep perspective and sanity, and a free online destination for tips, videos, shopping lists and daily food and exercise journals to help make your weight loss goals easy and achievable. www.digestdiet.com
To prove the 21-day eating plan truly works, we put a dozen men and women on the diet—and their results will astound and inspire you. Our top tester lost 26 pounds in 3 weeks!

Ready, Set, Start! Post diet follow up
I read the reviews before buying and decided to purchase because I already ate most of the foods listed,(I.e., fruits, veggies and nuts) and I like to cook fresh. No doubt the read was extensive but I finished and used the website to print the journals and shopping lists. I started shopping as I read so it wouldn’t be a big hit to my budget to begin, but it will take time still to completely build my pantry up for the long haul. So I’m ready, I have about 50 lbs to lose and yes, this will be my last diet. At 51, I’m healthy but overweight and need a lifestyle overhaul versus a quick diet. All the points about sleep, stress, exercise and laughter were spot on. It was good to read a very comprehensive book. And I agree with other reviewers that material could be laid out better, especially for kindle, but I’ve booked marked and noted what I needed quick access to so it’ll do.I hope to post a follow up in terms of results. This rating was on the book itself.POST DIET FOLLOW UP – Results! I lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks. I was hoping for 10 but women lose slower than men, so I’ve heard. I’m happy with the results though, I have 46 lbs to go but already I feel the difference. No more pain in my knees, I can move better and feel better overall. While the exercises in the beginning were a challenge, it got better as the pounds came off. I was really a challenge to do them, but I pushed myself. Cooking meals was a bit of a challenge in prepping, but the meals themselves were a hit a home for dinner and easy for me during lunch and breakfast. I think I made it harder, so the 2nd week, I took it a day at a time instead of trying to prep everything for the week. I liked most of the menu options, but did skip a few during the 3rd week. I’m cycling through Fade away and Maintain to lose the rest of the weight and just ordered the cookbook. I plan to stick with it and enjoy learning how to combine foods to get results. I’m also re-reading the book to make sure I’m sticking with the concepts. I feel so much better overall even with only 6 lbs off.

I LOVE THIS DIET< FINALLY FOUND THE RIGHT 1!! I was a little skeptical @ first. This diet was suggested by my doctor and first thing I did was rent it from the library! I thought, I have to read it first to see if it is for me. This is not for everybody, but the greatest thing is, if you go to the website, they have a full grocery list for you to print the grocery items that are needed for approx 4-5 days at a time. On facebook, there's a huge community of support and other Digest Dieter's who have succeeded and have kept the weight off, very supportive! I love it! If I can do this, anyone can do this! I have a very busy schedule, three kids, a business to run of my own and if my husband approves, I HAD TO DO IT! After getting half way through the book, I ordered my own copy (u definitely need one of your own, to highlight and continuously keep reading) especially for the workouts. The first phase is a "fast release" and I dropped 7 lbs., second phase is a "fade away" and third phase is "finish strong", in total I lost 11 lbs. for the first 21 days. I felt terrific and no longer need tea or coffee as a morning booster. I have sooooo much energy eating all the healthy foods, I don't miss my tea/coffee wake up and I no longer look for sugary foods, junk foods, etc. I no longer drink soda! This is a huge change for me, I used to be a "closet" junk food junkie! The exercise is fabulous, first 4 days, walk 45-60min. and the rest of the time, alternating between a 12 min workout paired with a 20 min walk, on the alternate days, 60 min walk! During the day, you have 3-5 (one)1 minute exercise bursts. I am first of all thankful to God for blessing me, to my family and very thankful to Liz and her terrific team for helping me on my journey to losing weight and showing us how to eat healthy for the rest of my life! I have approx 48 more to go and will update my progress along the way, good luck to everyone, I highly suggest this plan to any and everyone!

Diet Works – But Difficult and Impractical for Me (Over 60, arthritis, 50 pounds to lose)
This diet works, as do all reduced calorie diets. But if you live alone and follow it exactly you will be either freezing vast quantities of food or throwing it away, or eating the same thing for days on end. For example, you will buy romaine, use two leaves, and not touch again for a week or more at which point it will be brown. You will make 8 cups of soup at a time and it does not hold up well to feezing and nutritional conent diminishes. You will also be stuck with ingredients you rarely use again if you abandon the diet – light coconut milk, dry milk powder, flaxseed meal, fennel bulb, etc. For those who believe fresh greens are important, you will not get enough fresh greens. If you are old, arthritic, and out of shape like me you will find the 12-minute workout impossible and just give up immediately. No substitutes are proposed. And be aware this is a low salt diet. No advice on teas or beverages beyond water, just one cup of coffee a day. No advice on stevia but all other artificial sweetners are out. Flavor of smoothies is sour and barely tolerable. The “real food” receipes with meat and grain are good but also bring all the old cravings right back. Clearly this diet is not for the severly obese or over 60 crowd. It seems to be geared to people who have just a few pounds to loose and are already in good shape.

My husband and I have both Been on the diet for about two weeks. We enjoyed the shakes and soups that we tried ( really liked the Mexican chicken soup!). Have had the balsamic salmon twice, delicious and easy. The salad dressing has been a hit with our whole family. I am looking forward to buying the new cookbook when it comes out in December. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a sensible, easy to follow diet.

I really enjoyed the info and, of course, it all makes sense. My only complaint is the layout of the recipies and how difficult they are to put with the step you are on. The cookbook does a much better job of helping us “elementary” cooks. It would also have helped me better if both the Diet Book and the Cookbook had portion sizes with the meats and meals. The shakes….no problem…..the soups…..no problem……but…..other recipes do not state whether a cup or ounce is the portion amount.

Well, at least my wife and waistline love it. Interesting and effective diet. Made me get a small microwave and fridge for my office.

This book is well written with back up information to support each idea/suggestion. I am treating it more as a lifestyle book than something to aid in weight loss so, for that, it is a good book. Whether following the plan would help you lose weight, I can’t say. Exercising an hour a day is going to do that even without following the plan.
