I was looking for something to hold my cell phone while I was driving my Impala. Due to that my dashboard is made out of metal. I needed something would work and this I just stick it to the bottom of my ashtray and it does not move at all. By the way the car has hydraulics, and with even all that bouncing my phone still sticks to the holder and the holder stays put. Totally recommended very well-made product.

Phone grabber is narrower than described and tightly pressured
I can give this phone mount 3 stars for the rugged construction and versatility of the base. The magnet is very strong, and the metal ball joint gives excellent range of adjustment. The 1/4″ threads are compatible with standard camera tripods.However, the rectangular holder that grasps the phone is a zero. The space between the side grips is barely two inches wide, not 2.97 inches as claimed in the product pictures. The spring-loaded bars you have to pull apart to place the phone in the holder take a lot of force, and were barely wide enough at their widest to push in my Moto e4, which totals just over three inches with its slim silicone case. It took two hands to pull the grips apart, and a helper to place the phone. The amount of pressure on the sides of my phone made me a little nervous of cracking it.The side grips are curved, which might help hold in a phone without a case, but even my thin case prevented my Moto from seating all the way back into the curve.Once I got the phone into the holder, I stuck the magnet base to the frame of my fireplace doors. The magnet held very well while I experimented with setting the ball joint.Unfortunately, the phone grippers did not perform so well. My Moto squirted out of the holder and the pressure of the spring-loaded bars shot it out with startling force. Thank goodness, it hit a box of kleenex on my couch, not my face or something that would have smashed the phone.Needless to say, I am not going to use that holder again.Since the rest of the unit is so well made and useful, I’m hoping to get some use out of it by replacing the holder with a 1/4″ threaded phone holder that is wider and not dangerously spring-loaded.
