Hatching Red Eared Sliders will eat this right away.
I have four hatchling Red Eared Sliders. Their shells are about 1 1/4â around. I have had them for 3 weeks and had originally bought them ReptoMin Baby Floating food sticks as their primary food. I also got them the ReptoTreat gammarus sun dried freshwater shrimp for snack/treat purposes. I gave them the ReptoMin Baby food sticks to begin with, and this was after having them for a week and I know they had not had anything to eat. They acted like the ReptoMin baby food sticks were not even there. They totally ignored them. After 3 or 4 hours they had not eaten even one of them. So, I decided to give them some of the shrimp and BAM! they instantly devowered every one I gave them. I read it was not a good idea to have hatchlings eat shrimp for their main diet item. So, I gave them some fresh Romain lettuce, the dark greenest part of the leaf and they liked that. Over the next week I continued to give them the ReptoMin baby food sticks and they continued to refuse to eat them. I even soaked them in tuna water, as some other people on the Internet had suggested, and they still refused them. They did like all insects that I threw in their terrarium. I also found some small worms in my wifeâs flower bed and they ate those as well instantly when they were offered. I decided to give up on the ReptoMin baby food sticks. I got back on Amazon, read reviews, watched videos, and made a decision to buy the Zoo Med Aquatic turtle food hatching formula. It was stupid cheap, 5$ for an 8 ounce bottle. Thatâs half a pound! The pellets are very small about 1/16 of an inch. I was worried at first, but was pleased with the amount of food. I got for the money, now if they would only eat it. To my surprise, they went to the new food immediately, and started gobbling up every little piece they could get to until every single piece was gone. Wow! What a difference. I will say, do not waste your money on ReptoMin Baby floating food sticks for your baby turtles unless you want to have a big disappointment at feeding time. This Zoo Med aquatic turtle food is a great bang for the buck and your baby turtles will eat it up immediately! Thank you, Zoo Med and Amazon for solving my baby turtle feeding issue.

Arrived quick and works for the turtle it seems
Turtle is not as ecstatic for this as he is for the gourmet we also ordered but who can blame him. Gourmet always beats standard right?

Nutritionally okay for hatchlings
While this may not be the most interesting turtle food, it is the correct size for hatchlings! Currently raising 20 red-earred sliders that are less than 1 year old (~2-3inch carapaces). This is currently the only brand I’ve found with a decently priced hatchling size pellet, which is important because, again, I have 20 turtles to feed. This food is okay for them as the base of their diet, so long as I supplement with other vitamins, greens, and chunkier proteins to help them with beak care.
