SIGMA’s line of autofocus cine lenses is finally becoming a reality! With today’s announcement, we’re not only getting the previously teased SIGMA 28-45mm T2 full-frame autofocus cine lens, but also a 28-105mm T3 version. While details are still limited, here’s what we know so far.
When we last mentioned the SIGMA 28-45mm T2 full-frame autofocus lens at IBC 2024, the company was still seeking user feedback to determine whether such a product was worth pursuing. We’re genuinely pleased to see that the feedback from potential users was positive. Not only is the company moving forward with the previously announced lens, but they’re also developing a full-frame 28-105mm T3 autofocus lens.

SIGMA autofocus cine lenses – key features
The optical systems of the SIGMA 28-45mm T2 FF and SIGMA 28-105mm T3 FF are based on the designs of the SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art and the SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art still lenses. According to the company, these cine versions combine years of optical design expertise with the latest development technologies and their advanced manufacturing techniques. The goal was to deliver “exceptional resolution and beautiful bokeh regardless of focal length or focus position, along with a sharp, clean look with minimal flare and ghosting”.
One of the main differences compared to the Art lenses is the “cinema-style” mechanics and operability, which is optimized for professional cinema production. These lenses feature a limited-rotation focus ring, industry-standard 0.8M pitch gears, and a clickless aperture ring designed to meet modern industry demands.

AF performance
We had the SIGMA 28-45mm AF Cine lens briefly at our office and can confirm that its autofocus performance of the lens on a Sony A1 mirrorless camera was flawless. The lens is equipped with a linear motor HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), allowing rapid focus shifts during intense movements in action scenes.

Key specifications

- Front Filter: M 82 x 0.75 mm
