Sony Releases a7 IV Firmware Update 5.01

Sony a7 IV Firmware Update 5.01 adds Access Authentication and WPA2 & WPA3 Wi-Fi support plus bug fixes.

Benefits and Improvements

• The Security (IPsec) functionality is no longer supported. Please enable and use Access Authen. as it provides more secure protection
• WPA and WEP functionalities are no longer supported. You will no longer be able to select WPA or WEP when connecting to Wi-Fi. Please use the more secure WPA2 or WPA3 moving forward
• Improves the operational stability of the camera

Things to keep in mind before performing the update

• Updates should be installed in chronological order. When updating from Ver. 1.01 or earlier, you need to update to Ver. 1.05 first, and then to Ver. 5.01. If you try to install Ver. 5.00 without updating to Ver. 1.05, an error will occur and you will not be able to update your camera.
• This update is only available for memory cards. Windows and macOS versions are not provided.
• You can download the software update using the Creators’ App available in the App Store and Google Play.

Saving Firmware to a Memory Card

IMPORTANT: Make sure there is only one BODYDATA.DAT file on the memory card.
• Click the Download button.
• After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
• Save the file to a computer.
• Insert the formatted memory card into the computer.
• Save the BODYDATA.DAT file in the root directory of the memory card.
Please Note: The file name must say BODYDATA.DAT. If you have downloaded Sony Firmware Updates in the past without deleing them, your computer may rename the update BODYDATA-2.DAT, BODYDATA-3.DAT, etc. You must change the filename back to BODYDATA.DAT before running the update.
 
Notes:
• Please format the memory card in advance using this product.
• Before formatting, copy the data to a computer or other device.
• Once you format the memory card, all the data recorded on the memory card will be deleted and cannot be restored.
• Please refer to the instruction manual of the camera for compatible memory cards.
