AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor
What we like about the Ryzen 7 5700X
This CPU was released back in April 2022 and impressed with its performance to price ratio, even at MSRP. We actually found that the differences between this and the Ryzen 7 5800X were only marginal, despite the latter being a fair bit pricier at the time.
This CPU is built for the AM4 socket platform, which means you’ll miss out on some of the very latest tech for your build, like Gen 5 SSDs for example. That’s not bad though, as you can take your pick of the many, many heavily discounted and high-performance AM4 compatible components on the market, and save big on your build.
- Core CPU specs: 8 cores, 16 threads, boost clock of 4.6 Ghz, low TDP of 65W, and a 32MB L3 cache.
- Impressive gaming performance: This CPU is well positioned for gaming with a large L3 cache and decent boost clock.
- Runs cool: It has a very low TDP, which can help with overall efficiency and keeping your rig running at its best.
- AM4 platform: The most cost-effective platform to build on and it’s still getting support despite AM5 being here.

Who’s this deal for and what are your alternatives?
This is a great deal if you’re looking to upgrade from a lower-end AM4 processor, and are going for something better for gaming. The big upgrade here will be mostly seen in the size of the L3 cache and boost clock, both of which are quite punchy for the price.
As far as alternatives, if you want something on the AM4 platform that’s better for gaming, you could go for the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D. This comes in at around $265, so double the price, but it boasts a massive 96MB L3 cache, which makes it great for gaming.
Overall though, as you can see from the graph above, May is looking like the best time to buy the Ryzen 7 5700X.
Don’t forget to pair it with one of the best GPUs for this processor to really get the most out of it.
