The respected Japanese camera brand unveils a new camera series blending analog artistry with digital storytelling.
YASHICA, the longstanding camera brand that played a significant role in the golden era of film photography, announced the launch of YASHICA FX-D on Kickstarter today. As a digital homage to the beloved YASHICA FX-3, YASHICA FX-D brings film’s timeless artistry into the digital age, blending nostalgic charm with modern convenience.

“Aiming to bridge the best of both worlds, YASHICA FX-D offers the tactile handling of classic film cameras with the convenience and flexibility of digital photography,” said a YASHICA spokesperson. “This digital camera series is designed for photographers interested in intentional shooting and thoughtful image-making.”
At its core, YASHICA FX-D is a camera series inspired by the ethos of analog photography. Drawing from the craftsmanship of YASHICA’s classic film camera, YASHICA FX-D allows photographers to reconnect with the artistry of image-making, and to capture the moment with thoughtfulness.

Its defining feature, a manual film advance lever, prompts a pause between shots, reinforcing a mindful approach to photography.
Film Simulation
One of YASHICA FX-D’s key features is its set of six film simulations, each intended to replicate the visual characteristics of YASHICA’s classic film stocks.
These include the subtle warmth of Ruby 60s, the cool tones of Sapphire 70s, the portrait-friendly contrast of YASHICA 400, the warm color palette of Golden 80s, and two black and white profiles — B&W 400, designed for street photography, and MONO 400, which offers fine grain and a balanced tonal range.

YASHICA FX-D offers photographers the ability to switch between these film simulations instantly, while allowing full customization to create and save their personal “film recipes” – something that traditional analog photography cannot provide. This creative freedom bridges the gap between the nostalgic soul of film and the flexibility of digital, allowing users to customize image profiles suited to their shooting style.
Designed for versatility, the YASHICA FX-D series comes in two models: YASHICA FX-D 300, equipped with optical image stabilization, and YASHICA FX-D 100, which offers both manual and auto focus, a 3x optical zoom, and 4x digital zoom.

Perfect for content creators and everyday storytellers, both cameras feature a 180-degree flip screen, making them ideal for selfies, filming vlogs and creating social media content.
YASHICA FX-D also gives photographers greater flexibility by:
- Allowing photographers to capture analog-style images digitally and instantly;
- Reducing the need to carry multiple camera bodies or lenses;
- Shortening post-production process.
Complementing the camera is the YASHICA App, which makes it easy to share timeless images across digital platforms, helping analog-inspired photography find relevance in today’s fast-paced digital world.

Whether used for travel photography, street storytelling, family gatherings, or personal creative projects, YASHICA FX-D supports a more mindful approach to photography — providing a thoughtful alternative to faster-paced digital shooting.
The YASHICA FX-D is available via Kickstarter and is expected to begin shipping in October 2025. Early bird deals start at $249 (Reg $359) for the FX-D 100 for the next couple of days before the campaign ends.
Yashica has launched products via Kickster in the past, but that is never a guarantee that the product will make it to market.

I just think the camera looks kind of cool for the money.
