Rock Solid Lock
Nest Yale Electronic LockIâve been through a few electronic deadbolts over the years, mainly the Kwikset Powerbolt and the Kwikset Smartcode, both of which utilize pressure pads. Although theyâve been reliable, the pressure pad does wear out over time and the Kwikset Smartcode lock goes through AA batteries very quickly, as in 3 months max. While I havenât had the Nest lock long enough to determine its battery life longevity, I can say that literally, every other attribute about this lock is far superior to the Kwiksetâs that Iâve owned in the past. What I like:-Easy Install*-Bolt manually engages and disengages silky smooth, with no resistance.-Bolt points left-to-right when in the locked position, which is what Iâm use to, vice some locks that point up-down in the locked position. As a creature of habit, the left-to-right lockup gives me a good visual.-The 9v battery backup option is brilliant, because I can always pop the battery out of my garage door opener if needed due to battery failure on the lock.-Near silent operation. My other Kwikset lock was very loud, gas powered not weed eater loud, but loud.-Unlocks super fast, with almost zero wait time for entry.-Lock App is simple and not cluttered with a plethora of icons for seldom used features.-Smooth glass touch face is easy to activate and instantly responsive to touch.-A smartphone or tablet isnât required to make the lock operational, although a smart devices is indeed necessary to access the App.*A note about installing the module: My lock wouldnât initially pair with my module, if you run into this issue, try a few things first before giving up;-During setup, connect the module as instructed without plugging it into the wall, just push on the front of the module to activate the light.-If the module still isnât recognized, relocate the module to a receptacle closer to the lock.-After the module is activated, when instructed to connect the lock to the module, ensure that you use the same access point that you used when activating the module. Some homes have different networks that auto switch to the strongest access point signal, so just double check that your phone or tablet hasnât auto-switched to a different access point. What I donât like:-Cost ~ This is a pricy lock considering that it has minimal features compared to other brand of flagship locks. Purchased for a good price during Black Friday, otherwise, I couldâve never justified the retail price, even though Iâm thoroughly impressed with the product thus far.-Google ~ Nest was bought out by Google, so itâs necessary to create a google account in order access the app features.-Styling ~ The outside portion of Nest Yale lock is spectacular. However, the same degree of sleek, minimalist styling wasnât applied to the interior portion of the lock. Itâs not unattractive by any stretch, but itâs far from awe-inspiring compared to the effort that Yale achieved on the front side of the lock.-Would prefer a completely tool-less battery access panel.Overall, Iâm thrilled with the lock thus far, 5 Stars thrilled despite some of the shortfalls. However, if battery life turns out to be short, Iâll end up deducting a star.

Who Needs Keys!
We just recently moved into a new home and one of the initiatives that I’ve been working to do is to reduce the number of keys that I need to bring with me when Iâm out of the house! As it stands now with the installation of the Nest x Yale Lock, all I need is the Key Fob for my car, which is amazing! The Nest x Yale Lock is an amazing smart lock and we’ve gladly added it to our collection of smart home devices! It operates quite well as advertised; we are able to lock it and unlock it using the touch panel and/or using our smartphone devices via the nest app. We also love the feature that we can use Google home to check if the door is locked and even ask it to lock the door for us while home.Installation was for the most part a breeze; however, your mileage may vary depending on the condition/setup of your prior door lock/deadbolt. Fortunately for me, my door cutouts were pretty much a direct match with the Nest x Yale lock set out of the box. Where I did hit a snag was struggling to fully extend the deadbolt to fit properly. At first, it only extended partially, I had to really jiggle and tug to fully extend the deadbolt to get it to fit precisely. As others may have noted, the Nest X Yale lock is very sensitive with regard to the strike plate. I did have to re-adjust the strike plate to ensure that the deadbolt didn’t miss as it operates. If you have a loose-fitting door when closed, be sure that you firmly shut your door before having Nest X Yale operate or it may end up missing the strike plate. We’ve just gotten into the habit of firmly closing the door to ensure smooth operation of the dead bolt.Additionally, bonus feature that we like is the ability to setup guest pins for use which allows us to keep track of who’s accessed our home. We also enjoy being able to keep track/see who’s operated our door as it’s all tracked on the Nest app.Overall, we are quite pleased with how well the Nest X Yale works! It looks beautiful and is adds a refreshing look to our front door but most importantly makes our lives easier. We never have to worry about forgetting our house keys again and that’s worth every penny!

Donât buy this lock! Waste of money!
This thing is a dud. I wish I had bought one of the cheaper no-hub WiFi locks instead of trusting the YALE brand. I thought that Yale + Google nest was going to be great, but the lock wonât connect to the app so none of the functionality thatâs promised has worked. Iâve had this lock for a year. Itâs great as a digital lock. The batteries last a long time& it was easy to put on the door. BUT the best connect would not connect to the lock & would malfunction on the app so we could never use any of the functions that we actually wanted like having multiple unlock keys, a schedule, auto-lock, unlock with phone etc⦠it is just a digital lock for us& that makes it a waste of money. If I wanted a plain digital lock, I could have bought one for $60. Instead, I paid $160 for a deadbolt with a screen.I am highly disappointed with this product and would not recommend to anyone. And yes, we tried the troubleshooting instructions & even a few forums. Spent days and hours trying to get this thing to work& it just doesnât.

I love this lock. I’ve tried a few other smart locks and they were all mostly worthless. This lock has given me zero problems, it’s tough, easy to use, and works every time.It integrates with the Nest app just like any other Nest device, and you can use it in Google Home.I was a little worried about not having a key for a backup, but if you ignore the weeks of low battery alerts, you can connect a 9 volt to the bottom to open it. Plus not having a key means less of a security worry. This lock communicates with the included device, which is connected directly to power, so the batteries in the lock last a long, long time. I had no setup issues, and everything just worked as expected.I’ve wasted hundreds of dollars on other smart locks, I wish I had just bought this one first.
