works as designed – great for weak individuals with limited dexterity
I purchased this for my mother who has very poor dexterity due to arthritis. She is able to clap – although a bit weakly so. Nevertheless, she can now control her room light instead of waiting for us to come by and adjust her lighting for her. Some days, as we were working or running errands, she would have to patiently wait for us to turn her lamp on or off. Now she has a little more control. If there was anything that could be changed, I wish I could adjust the sensitivity of the clap sound. At her weakened state, her claps are soft and are not always detected by the device. We moved the clapper up to her night stand and secured it safely to the side by bringing up a heavy duty extension cord through the table, yet out of the way. This makes it physically close to her. So far so good.

The sounds needed are a little finicky…
My daughter was watching The Dog Who Saved Halloween (2011) and in that movie, the dad claps and the lamp turns off. She was amazed. I told her those things actually exist. She then told me she wanted one for her birthday!I ended up getting her one to install in her room (not for her birthday – just a surprise) and showed her how it worked.Overall works as intended. But… the sounds needed to trigger it are very specific and yet very random.1) Doesn’t work when you want it to.2) Does work when you don’t expect it to (loud noises, falling objects, etc)3) Can be very difficult to trigger when noises are happening in the room. What I have learned though is: – Don’t clap too fast. 2 (or 3) clear, separate claps work best. – Works best when not hidden in a corner. I have mine tucked between a side table and bed. Sometimes won’t register your claps if you’re not in clear line of sight (sound?). – A super easy way to trigger it is tapping the box itself. When my daughter is asleep and I need to turn off the light — instead of clapping, I simply tap the box twice and it works just the same.My daughter does get frustrated sometimes when it doesn’t work right away. But overall was a fun investment.

I do ultimately love it
The think about a clapper is that itâs funny and cheesy every day. I got a little Pavlovian thing going where my reaction to having to turn off a light, even in a random room, is to clap. My 33 year light switch reflex has been so swiftly over taken by my clap reflex. Old dogs ð¤ new tricks. On the list of how this product has positively changed my life I would list convenience at 9/10

Wish it worked…but it doesn’t.
It doesn’t work… There are two ‘sensitivity’ settings, but every time I try to use it, no matter the setting, it thinks it’s picking up background noise and does not function. Only way I can get it to work (inconsistently) is if I’m right next to it, which completely defeats the purpose. Unfortunately was supposed to be a fun, nostalgic gift… but turned out to be a waste of money.I bought it as a Christmas present but life happened and we didn’t actually try it until March, so definitely outside the return window.

Our family loves this clapper. I bought it for the 14 year old and we put it in the main living room because we all liked it so much. Very funny to hear C-3P0 when the lights go on and off.
